Hiring Range: $29.59 - $36.97 Per Hour

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is looking for a passionate School-Based Therapist to join our team and provide ongoing behavioral and therapeutic support to children enrolled in our program. In this vital role, you will provide individual, group, and family therapy, crisis intervention, and case coordination. Working collaboratively with school personnel and families, you'll help students access mental health support, improve emotional regulation, and reduce barriers to learning.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Meet with referred students to assess needs and make appropriate referrals as needed, including but not limited to primary care doctor, outpatient mental health counseling, wraparound intensive services, and substance abuse treatment;
- Provide brief intervention, crisis intervention, and trauma support
- Provide in-school voluntary family, individual, and group counseling as indicated depending on the needs of the student. The counseling techniques will include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and builds emotional regulations skills in children, and Motivational Interviewing; and
- Collaborate with school district personnel to implement plans to support students.
- Participate in interventions as necessary to encourage students to follow the school expectations. Identify issues that impede the student's successful social and emotional behavior and assist in creating plans that address these issues;
- Partner with the families of students enrolled in the program as necessary. Help families learn skills to assist the student outside of school, build a stronger relationship with the school system, and access appropriate resources for their students. This may include conducting family meetings, providing outreach to family homes, coordinating with other systems, or helping connect the family with additional resources or services.
- Provide guidance/coaching to school faculty as requested. This may include classroom observations, faculty presentations, and participation in family staffing or multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Document client progress to maintain a permanent record of client activity according to established policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Psychology, social services, or behavioral health field or must meet waiver criteria of RCW 71.24.260.
EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
This position may include outreach services in order to meet the needs of clients in safe, therapeutic environments, including but not limited to schools, approved community locations, and supported home visits. Outreach activities are determined based on client preference or supervisory guidance, with any adjustments subject to approval by the supervisory team. Clinicians will be assigned a primary work location and are expected to return to that site when not providing services in the community.
This position requires driving clients in a personal vehicle on behalf of the agency; therefore, the incumbent must meet agency driving requirements, including meeting the minimum age requirement of 21 years old, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington, and having reliable, insured transportation.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration.
Child Mental Health Specialist qualifications required.
Per the RCW 28A.400.303, employees of contractors with school districts that “have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children” are required to go through FBI fingerprinting.
Food Handler’s Permit is required for Madrona, preferred for Sequoia Program and Restorative School.
Preferred Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: Intermediate (minimum 3 years of job-related experience)
Experience working with Special Education population strongly preferred.
Educational or classroom management experience preferred.
The capacity to work well with children and families.
Performance Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE:
- Awareness of or working knowledge of Cognitive/Behavioral therapy, Rational/Emotive therapy, behavioral modification, applied behavior analysis, and development theory strongly preferred.
SKILLS:
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
- Communication ‑ Communicates clearly and concisely.
- Computer skills ‑ Ability to operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier proficiently.
ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed productivity standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member.
- Able to assist in building positive working relationships with staff of all agency departments.
Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.
Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the job duties, the employee is required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, talk, or listen. Peripheral vision is also required for this position.
