A school district in Chesapeake, VA is seeking two full-time Teachers for the Visually Impaired to serve students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade for the 2025-2026 school year. This itinerant role supports 1-3 students at each of 11 schools, including 5 elementary, 5 middle, and 7 high schools. The position allows flexibility to create schedules tailored to each school's day, with varying start times across elementary, middle, and high levels.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments
- Collaborating with other staff members if students have multiple disabilities
- Adapting educational materials and strategies to meet individual needs
- Monitoring student progress and maintaining documentation
- Communicating regularly with parents, teachers, and support personnel
- Traveling between assigned schools to deliver on-site services
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure in Teaching Students with Visual Impairments
- Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments or multiple disabilities
- Ability to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and instructional materials
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration
- Flexibility in schedule management and willingness to travel among schools
