A Special Education Teacher position is available for a contract during the upcoming school year in the Lebanon, PA area, serving middle and high school students in grades 8 and 9. This role focuses on a combined Autism support classroom designed for high-functioning students within a self-contained transition program.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction in social studies, math, English language arts, and social skills tailored to students on the autism spectrum.
- Support the development of social skills and manage some behavioral needs.
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals to provide a structured and supportive learning environment for up to six students, with a maximum class size of eight.
- Plan lessons and activities during a dedicated planning block to meet individual student goals.
- Manage classroom activities and communication with students during scheduled times from 7:10 AM to 2:40 PM, Monday through Friday, including a 30-minute lunch period.
Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teaching Certification (emergency certification not accepted).
- Experience working with students on the autism spectrum is preferred but open to new graduates.
- Ability to manage a self-contained classroom environment and collaborate with two or more paraprofessionals.
- Strong skills in teaching core subjects as well as social skills development.
