CLASSROOM TEACHER

Classroom Teacher is responsible to plan and provide for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervise students in a variety of school related settings. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community. Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintain appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities. The Teacher works closely with the school Principal, Dean of Students, Academic Deans, and School Culture Coordinator in providing programming and restorative practices that embrace and teach the pillars of our community: RESPECT, COMPASSION, GRIT, REFLECTION, INTEGRITY, CURIOSITY.

The responsibilities of the Classroom Teacher include:

Classroom Instruction Management

• Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meet the needs, interests and abilities of students using the approved programs and curriculum

• On a regular and consistent basis, meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

• Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.

• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.

• Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.

• Implement and monitor performance criteria and assessments for scholars.

• Collaborate with Educational assistants and Title 1 teacher to make significant growth for students with deficiencies in math and reading.

• Assist other faculty and staff in identifying, defining, and solving instructional related problems.

• Promote the infusion of technology in the teaching/learning process including successful implementation of instructional programs like STAR, IXL, Reading A-Z, Dreambox, Zearn, Headsprout, and other online sites.

• Analyze and input student data monthly to make informed instructional decisions in all content areas.

• Adhere to the school master schedule of classes and course pacing

• Create and distribute student report cards

• Plan instructional field trips tied to the curriculum

• Make learning visible in the classroom, important objectives have anchor charts in the classroom

Student Life/Progress

• Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.

• Evaluate the learning progress of students on a regular basis using appropriate assessments.

• Create and send parent communications regarding student academic and social progress on a bi-monthly basis.

• Participate in school wide incentives that create a positive climate and culture of the school.

• Create and distribute monthly newsletter to inform stakeholders of classroom updates.

• Plan field trips that will widen the horizons of our scholars

Student Management

• Establish and maintain appropriate behavior standards and discipline to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom

• Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds

• Implement a behavior management system that is established by the school and ensure that infractions are teachable moments. This includes a positive system for rewarding exemplary behavior

• Develops character and morals for tomorrow’s leaders by using the traits of ITA in everyday language.

• Oversee day-to-day disciplinary issues in the classroom

• Participate and refer students to the Student Intervention Team (SIT) for student issues and collaborate with colleagues to create a plan for student success.

• Communicate clearly and in a timely fashion, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents and appropriate school staff regarding any disciplinary event or consequence.

• Keep accurate records regarding disciplinary infractions and consequences in the school JMC system

• Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state, and school policy.

Teacher Growth

• Attend regular meetings with the Deans on an individual and group basis in order to facilitate communication and growth for our scholars.

• Use feedback from Deans in a positive fashion to learn new methods that will help scholars achieve.

• Attend all staff professional development with a growth mindset

• Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas.

School/Organization Climate

• Promote a positive, caring learning environment.

• Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

• Communicate effectively, positively, professionally with students and staff.

• Maintain and update school bulletin boards with student exemplars and other academic work monthly

• Make visible in your classroom the pillars of ITA; SHINE and character traits.

• Be responsible for the supervision and care of school inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment, and supplies. Report safety hazards promptly.

Personnel Management

• Create and adhere to schedule for educational assistants

• Implement weekly meeting time with educational assistant to discuss logistics and any needs or concerns

• Provide clear directions and materials for substitute teachers.

School /Community Relations

• Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing goals.

• Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.

• Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage parent and community involvement.

• Coordinate and help with school enrollment events and goals

Other Duties

• Perform other related duties as directed by the Principal.

• Perform supervision of students during unstructured times such as before and after school, during passing times and during lunch periods.

• Other duties as assigned
