Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling or a related field, active School Counselor license and 1+ years School Counselor experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A rewarding opportunity is available for a Recreational Therapist to support students in a dynamic school district located about 30 miles from Albuquerque, NM. This position focuses on enhancing the personal and social development of K-12 students with a variety of needs, including autism, ADHD, developmental delays, and other disabilities.
Location: Los Lunas, NM (Itinerant within district)
Position Type: Contract, Full-time (35 hours/week)
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Assignment Duration: August 1, 2025 May 22, 2026
Qualifications and Certifications:
- NM Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification is required.
- Experience working with school-age children with special needs is highly desirable.
- Ability to travel to multiple school sites within the district.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate development of social skills in students with autism using group-based games and activities.
- Support students with ADHD in regulating energy through structured physical exercises.
- Assist students with developmental delays in improving gross motor skills by incorporating adapted sports and recreational activities.
- Encourage munity integration by teaching students with disabilities to access local resources and participate in recreational opportunities.
- Provide coping strategies and relaxation techniques to students experiencing stress, anxiety, or depression.
