Job DescriptionSalary: $3,500 monthly stipend & $4,000 end of year award upon successful completion of each year.
POSITION SUMMARY
The College Access Fellow supports high school students in navigating the college access process through one-on-one case management, data tracking, and program support. This role is embedded at one or more high school campuses and serves as the liaison between the school and BCS (Building College Success). The Fellow guides students through college and financial aid applications, career and major exploration, and the selection of right-fit postsecondary options. Fellows receive mentorship from the BCS team and are expected to maintain a strong, visible presence on campus. This is a full time non-exempt position for a 2 year fellowship.
Fellows will be assigned a caseload of students across up to three high school campuses, selected from the following list:
Crenshaw, Hamilton, LACES, Inglewood, Westchester, Dorsey, Manual Arts, Augustus Hawkins, Washington Prep, and Centennial High School.
Fellows must be comfortable commuting to assigned campuses at least two times per week per site. Fellows are also expected to support and attend all major organization-wide events, including community celebrations, conferences, and college access/success programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
60% Direct Student Support & Case Management
- Provide one-on-one and small group case management for a caseload of high school seniors.
- Guide students through every stage of the college process, including admissions applications, financial aid (FAFSA/CADAA), scholarships, and decision-making.
- Support students with major and career exploration and aligning goals with postsecondary plans.
- Host or co-lead college and financial aid workshops, office hours, and advising sessions.
20% Data Entry & Program Coordination
- Input and maintain up-to-date and accurate student data in internal and external systems.
- Track progress toward key college access milestones, including application and financial aid submissions.
- Assist with reporting and data analysis to assess student progress and identify support needs.
10% Partnership & Campus Engagement
- Act as the BCS liaison at your assigned school sites.
- Maintain strong, proactive relationships with school counselors, administrators, and community partners.
- Ensure alignment of BCS services with school priorities and coordinate student referrals or joint events.
10% Outreach & Recruitment
- Support student recruitment efforts, especially for BCS college-prep programs and STEAM pathways.
- Represent BCS at school events, college fairs, info sessions, and open houses.
- Assist in developing outreach materials and maintaining communication with students and families.
Professional Development
- Actively engage in regular supervision, mentorship, and training sessions led by the BCS team.
- Participate in peer learning, team meetings, and continuous improvement practices.
- Receive coaching and feedback to strengthen your skills in college advising, youth development, and education fairness.
Additional Duties (As Needed)
- Support assigned projects or tasks related to program operations and student services as needed.
Assist with creating basic outreach and program materials, including flyers, presentations, and digital content to support student engagement and recruitment efforts. - Perform other duties as assigned that align with the organization's mission and college access programming.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support and attend all large-scale organizational events, such as student retreats, college send-offs, family nights, and end-of-year celebrations.
- Represent the college access team with professionalism and care in every settingwhether remote, on campus, or in the community.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience

- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience working with high school students in a school, nonprofit, or mentoring program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of California colleges, FAFSA/CADAA, and career/major exploration tools.
- Awareness of the local education ecosystem, especially LAUSD and Inglewood Unified schools.
- Deep commitment to education and supporting college-bound students.
- Excellent relationship-building skills across youth, families, and school staff.
- Strong communication, follow-through, and ability to build rapport with diverse student populations.
- Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple responsibilities.
- Familiarity with college admissions, financial aid, and postsecondary planning processes.
- Must have access to a reliable car and be able to travel between sites and to events in the Los Angeles area
- Role may require in-person office support, occasional Saturday programming, and late-night programming

- Must clear a LiveScan criminal background check
- Must clear a TB Risk Assessment
- Must complete Mandated Reporter training
WORK CONDITIONS

- Regular travel to up to three school sites weekly; must be able to commute reliably.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours required for family nights, workshops, and recruitment events.
- Periodic meetings at the BCS central office or partner locations.
WORK SCHEDULE (This may be adjusted as needed.)

- 1 days remote (WFH) for documentation, outreach, and virtual student meetings.
- 1 day in-office for collaboration, supervision, and planning.
- 2-3 days in the field meeting students on high school campuses or at community sites.
Flexibility is essential. Some evenings or Saturdays may be required to support student schedules and organizational events.
