A school in Chicago, IL is seeking an experienced Instructional Teacher to lead a self-contained classroom for Kindergarten and 1st-grade students for the upcoming school year, starting August 19. This contract position offers the opportunity to work closely with a small caseload of approximately six low-incident students, many of whom use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices to enhance communication.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering tailored instruction to K & 1st-grade students in a self-contained classroom setting
- Utilizing assistive technology to facilitate effective communication and learning
- Creating and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with diverse needs
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting instructional approaches accordingly
- Collaborating with support staff, families, and other educators to promote student success
Qualifications and desired experience:
- Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement
- Proficiency in Assistive Technology applications, particularly AAC devices
- Experience teaching in self-contained classrooms with low-incident students
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to engage with students, families, and school teams effectively
- Passion for fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments
Work schedule:
- Classroom hours from 8:15 AM to 3:45 PM
