Job DescriptionOverview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to join a team of educators in Pike County. This role is essential in providing support to students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers to facilitate an inclusive learning environment, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed academically, socially and physically.Salary:$16-17/hour
This salary range is based on 8 hours daily with 187 work days per year. This is a contract position with schedules based on the system's calendar of staff work/training days and student learning days.Duties

  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Support students in their daily activities, including academic tasks, social interactions, and behavior management.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and adapt curriculum materials that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Foster a positive learning environment by effective communication and ensuring the student has the understanding of classroom instruction and educational tools.
  • Assist students with physical needs when required such as feeding, mobility and other tasks as outlined by the student's IEP.
  • Engage with the student(s) and build positive, professional rapport.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, reporting any significant changes or concerns to the supervisor

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of an associates degree from an accredited college or university
  • Must be able to meet the suitability criteria for employment and certification under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999
  • Previous experience working with children is required
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with students, supervising teachers and other key players in the child's education
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated desire to see student's succeed and thrive in their school experience

Additional Training Requirements:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification will be provided. If already received, proof of certification and date of expiration is required
  • Specialized de-escalation and restraint training will be provided by the school system at no cost to the employee
  • Ongoing training required by the department of education will be conducted through training and work days as assigned
