As a School Building Substitute at Journey Community Schools (JCS), you will support the academic and operational needs of the school. School Building Substitutes will report to the same building or location every school day filling in daily absences. School Building Substitutes might serve as teachers, paraprofessionals or any other positions school leaders need assistance covering that day.
What You Will Do:

Serve as a substitute when needed for absent teachers or other staff

Supervise students both in and out of the classroom

Communicate effectively with school staff, including administrators, teachers, and support personnel, to address any concerns or issues that arise during the day

Perform various instructional support tasks as assigned to facilitate the effective teaching of applicable subject matter and to maintain appropriate classroom environments

Provide tutoring/intervention services for students, as needed
-
Follow the daily schedule (academic and supervisory), class rolls, lesson plans, and other information for the day’s activities as provided by the classroom teacher or school administration

Perform a variety of clerical tasks as assigned by the principal
Participate in meetings and/or assisting with school events as required
Perform other related duties as required and assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Experience working with K‐8 students, particularly those reading two or more years behind grade level
-
Knowledge of child and youth cognitive development and different learning styles
-
Strong organization skills

Ability and willingness to implement JCS Strategic Practices

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed building skills

Education Requirements:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
-

Experience Requirements:
-
At least one year working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant preferred
