Job DescriptionTitle:Special Education TeacherFLSA:ExemptReports To:Organization Summary:Chief Clinical OfficerFounded in 1970 by a behavioral health hospital and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1983, TLC is an entrepreneurial social enterprise committed to transforming lives and communities-one moment, one choice, one connection at a time. Headquartered in Pennsylvania, TLC operates across multiple states, providing K-12 alternative education, comprehensive mental and behavioral health services, coaching, counseling, and trauma-informed training. Additionally, TLC collaborates with school districts, universities, hospitals, police departments, and nonprofit organizations, offering consultation services to secure federal and state grant funding.Summary:Each therapeutic emotional support classroom will be led by a Special Education Teacher responsible for planning, implementing and delivering high-quality, individualized instruction tailored to each student's academic needs.Essential Functions & Responsibilities:• Developing individualized learning strategies based upon students' IEPs.• Planning, organizing, and assigning activities specific to each student's abilities.• Assessing students' progress and determining the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.• Employing and implementing a classroom structure to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with TLC and MPS policies and procedures.• Participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss student goals, progress, and interventions.• Integrating social emotional learning and coping strategies into daily lessons.• Working in collaboration with Licensed Mental Health Professionals and Behavior Mentors to support students' positive behavior changes.• Maintaining accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavior.• Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.• Completing all district and state reporting requirements.Education and Experience:• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field, a Master's degree preferred.• Valid Wisconsin certification in Special Education instruction.• Prior experience working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges, preferably in a therapeutic setting.• Knowledge and experience with IEP software.• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices.• Trained as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) within one year of employment.• Ability to work effectively on a multi-disciplinary team.• Ability to effectively communicate with MPS leadership, MPS staff, program staff, students, parents, and key stakeholders.• Preference will be given to bilingual individuals.Work Environment:School-Based setting.Hours of Work:This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position.Other Duties:Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
