JOB PURPOSE:

Develops and provides academic support services for Navajo Technical University students. NSSC Coordinator participates in initiatives including academic K-12, Navajo Nation and various grant opportunities.


This position description indicates in general the nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, and abilities. It is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities required or assigned to this position.


JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and develop goals, policies and procedures for the center's student success programs.
  • Develops and coordinate academic support services for NTU students e.g. learning resources, tutoring, computing services, academic laboratories, and all aspects of the program.
  • Oversee, develop and manages peer tutoring, study skills education, and mentorships to increase study success, retention and graduation rates.
  • Create an academic engagement plan, set goals and share resources to help students achieve their objectives within and beyond the classroom environment.
  • Conduct student success training sessions and workshops; provide leadership in NSSC through outreach to students and campus partners.
  • Plan and implement campus wide/college wide community and co-curricular programs with coordination between instructors, student service staff, counselors and administrators to enhance the academic success of students.
  • Partners and assists faculty to closely correlate content in the classroom with NSSC services.
  • Maintain service data, writing reports, and working closely with staff and faculty.
  • Develop, recruit and coordinate all center activities including selection, hiring, training and supervision of staff for the center's operation.
  • Provide assessment assistance, orientation and registration for students; advise, counsel and guide all students on personal, academic and professional development.
  • Manage the Center's budget and oversee purchases of supplies, equipment, and contracted services.
  • Encourages student participation including advanced and challenged students to utilize the NSSC programs.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate student tutors.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years' experience in tutoring and/or teaching and providing academic student services.
  • Experience with an extensive knowledge of tutorial, supplemental instruction and other academic support programs in a college setting.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of assessment methodologies principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation processes and issues.
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of education teaching principles and practices.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
  • Writing and strong research skills.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to lead and guide the work of tutors and student employees.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the Navajo and English language.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for prolonged periods, walk and stand.
  • Use hands for dexterity of motion, repetitive movement of both hands.
  • Have normal auditory, visual acuity, and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull upwards of 25 pounds.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is generally performed in office setting.
  • Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
  • Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
