Job Description

Public Safety Instructor (CIP CODE: 43.9999) – Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT) is seeking a qualified, student-centered professional to fill the position of Public Safety Instructor. This position offers the opportunity to lead a dynamic program designed to prepare students for careers in law enforcement, fire protection, emergency health services, and security/loss prevention. The ideal candidate brings deep field experience and a commitment to hands-on, real-world teaching aligned with local workforce needs and career readiness goals.


About the Program:

Students study topics including the criminal justice system, law enforcement, emergency services, firefighting, hazardous materials, and security operations. The program fosters professionalism, leadership, and strong communication, and is deeply rooted in respect and structure. Students have the opportunity to earn their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, Firefighter 1 Certification, and a variety of other certifications related to the Public Safety Field including Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).


  • Term of Employment: Full-time (10 Months), permanent
  • Compensation: Per MBEA Teachers’ Contract

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver relevant, high-quality instruction using real-world scenarios, live demonstrations, field-based experiences, and team-building activities.
  • Create a structured, respectful, and motivating classroom culture that treats students as emerging professionals.
  • Incorporate activities such as leadership roles, professionalism development, and community engagement.
  • Plan, coordinate, and collaborate with additional instructors (as needed) to support the delivery and integration of Firefighter I and EMT instruction, ensuring alignment with certification requirements and program goals.
  • Hold students accountable while being understanding and approachable, modeling strong professional boundaries.
  • Design instruction that clearly connects classroom content to public safety careers.
  • Maintain curriculum aligned with the Occupational Advisory Committee and industry standards.
  • Cultivate industry partnerships to provide co-op, internship, and certification opportunities.
  • Promote leadership opportunities inside and outside of the classroom, such as SkillsUSA and other CTSO involvement.
  • Fulfill all professional responsibilities as outlined in the MBIT Teacher Job Description.



Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain Pennsylvania certification in Career and Technical Instruction (2600) or Protective Services Occupations (2122) strongly preferred.
  • Successful completion of the Homeland Security Occupational Competency Assessment.
  • Minimum of four (4), preferably, seven (7) years of documented wage-earning experience as a Police Officer or EMT or Firefighter.
  • Computer proficiency required


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in career and technical teaching; good oral and written communication skills.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful candidate must be willing to obtain Emergency Medical Technician Instructor certification if not already certified.
  • The successful candidate must complete the PDE-required college course work & certification process if not already certified.
