Job DescriptionKhalsa is a small, Montessori private and charter school located in downtown Phoenix that serves children from the Toddler level to Elementary school. Khalsa is a long-standing education provider in Phoenix and is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary! We value diversity and offer a safe place for all children and adults to grow.
Khalsa Montessori School has an opening for an Assistant Teacher in Primary (3-5/6yr olds). The assistant will provide support to the lead teacher and aid in running the classroom. This individual must be creative, loving and kind, calm, flexible, organized and dependable. They must be passionate about working with children!
This primary classroom assistant position is full time, Monday- Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm, in a Montessori classroom. An assistant teacher is responsible for safety protocols (cleaning), monitoring the classroom, ensuring appropriate follow-through of the teacher's direction or student's choice of appropriate behavior, maintaining educational materials and keeping the class environment attractive for the students. Other duties include but are not limited to snack preparation, monitoring children during classroom time, outside playground time (approximately an hour a day), etc.
For all applicants, a minimum of one year of experience with young children is essential. We are looking for individuals with maturity, high integrity, open mindedness, flexibility, dedication to the well-being of the children, willingness to be a team player, and a "beginner’s mindset".
The following characteristics are essential components of a successful candidate:
- Experience working well in a team environment. The assistant is an integral part of creating a courteous, fun and energetic learning environment
- Assistant needs to have a positive attitude and is caring and curious about learning and working with children of all ages
- Ability to multitask and have strong classroom management skills
- Monitor students during lunch, recess, arrival and dismissal, and as needed
- Montessori experience is a plus

Required Education: High school or equivalent. College degree a plus.
Required experience: Childcare or experience working with children.
Classroom Management: 1 year
Required license or certification: Valid IVP AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card, CPR and First Aid certification, and a negative TB Test
