South Sound Radiology is seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Authorization Specialist to support our mission of delivering exceptional patient care in a busy and collaborative outpatient setting.

Compensation: Hourly range of $22.91 to $32.99. Salary is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and employment status.
Shift: Monday – Friday
Position Summary
As an Insurance Authorization Specialist, you will play a key role in creating a smooth and efficient experience for our patients by processing insurance verifications and securing pre-authorizations. You’ll collaborate closely with referring providers, internal departments, and insurance companies to ensure all required documentation is accurate and submitted on time.
Strong communication skills are essential for promptly processing authorizations and resolving any issues that may arise. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of insurance requirements and a keen attention to detail to support an optimal patient experience. Additionally, this position provides support to the reception team, contributing to overall front office operations.

Responsibilities
-
Verify insurance and determine the need for pre-authorization. Identify appropriate insured, policy, group, and billing addresses for primary, secondary, and tertiary insurances. Apply MSP (Managed Service Provider), ABN (Advanced Beneficiary Notice), and COB (Coordination of Benefits) rules for each payer, when applicable, in addition to performing ICD-10 coding.

Communicate updates and changes regarding insurance verification and pre-authorization requirements to patients and key internal/external stakeholders.

Accurately document information in patient accounts and records.

Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills when interacting with internal and external customers.

Identify issues and communicate them to the supervisor, offering solutions as appropriate.

Participate on Radia teams, as needed.

Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule to meet organizational needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of health insurance, ICD-10, and CPT coding

Understanding of medical terminology

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required

Previous medical office experience preferred

1–2 years of experience working as an insurance verifier preferred
