BetterEd Solutions is currently seeking a dynamic, mission-aligned educator to join the leadership team of a small Montessori charter school in Washington, DC as a Montessori Elementary Instructional Coach (Grades 1–6).
In partnership with the school’s Principal and BetterEd’s school improvement team, the Instructional Coach will lead the implementation of the Montessori curriculum across both Primary and Elementary levels. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about coaching, curriculum leadership, and building equitable, student-centered learning environments.
As a key member of the school’s leadership team, the coach will:
- Support professional development for Montessori Guides and instructional staff
- Foster culturally responsive and inclusive practices
- Strengthen curriculum alignment and delivery across classrooms

Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Instructional Leadership:
- Lead the implementation and evaluation of the Montessori curriculum in alignment with the school's mission and vision.
- Provide guidance and coaching to classroom teachers (Guides) and staff on Montessori pedagogy, ensuring equity and access to high-quality lessons, materials, and experiences for all students.
- Collaborate with the Principal and staff to develop and refine lesson plans, instructional techniques, and assessment methods to support student growth.
- Model and promote Montessori principles of grace, courtesy, and respect in all school interactions.
Staff Development and Coaching:
- Conduct regular classroom observations and offer feedback and coaching to educators to foster professional growth.
- Facilitate professional development workshops and individual coaching sessions, focusing on Montessori philosophy, instructional strategies, and culturally responsive teaching.
- Oversee the performance assessments of classroom staff, including Montessori Guides,
Assistants, and Classroom Assistants.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and training of academic staff to ensure alignment with the school's values and mission.
Student Support and Achievement:
- Support the development and implementation of individual and group interventions to promote students' academic and social-emotional growth.
- Use data (e.g., assessments, observations, and student work) to inform instructional practices and track progress toward school-wide goals.
- Ensure that grade-level benchmarks and Montessori-aligned expectations are met for all students, particularly those from traditionally underserved populations.
- Collaborate with the Principal on disproportionality studies and other efforts to ensure an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
Community Engagement and Family Relations:
- Lead initiatives to engage families and the community in understanding and supporting the Montessori philosophy.
- Coordinate and lead family education workshops, community events, and school celebrations.
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress, school activities, and important updates.
Operational and Administrative Support:
- Assist the Principal in coordinating the daily operations of the school, including staffing, scheduling, and substitute coverage.
- Support the organization and implementation of standardized assessments and school-wide data collection.
- Contribute to the development of school-wide policies, procedures, and routines that support the Montessori approach.
Required Competencies and Qualifications:
- A strong commitment to Montessori philosophy and expanding access to Montessori education for all children.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and families.
- Experience providing instructional coaching, professional development, and feedback to educators.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster a positive school culture.
- Ability to analyze data to drive instruction and decision-making.
- Knowledge of and commitment to anti-bias, anti-racist pedagogy.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, families, and staff.
- Bilingualism is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- Montessori certification ( Elementary I-II) required.
- Montessori Administrator Certification preferred but not required.
- A Master’s degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
- Teaching licensure preferred
- At least five years of Montessori classroom experience and three to five years of experience in coaching, administration, or leadership.
- Experience working in diverse educational settings and a commitment to inclusive practices.
- Experience leading or supporting a bilingual or dual-immersion program is a plus.
