Job Title: Theater Teacher, Middle School & High School
Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County, Lone Tree, Colorado
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Fine Arts and Electives
Employment Type: Full Time, Typical School , professional development and work days.
Salary Range: $45,000-55,000/year
Position Summary:
The teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment. This role includes guiding students through structured, content-rich lessons in a specific discipline, nurturing intellectual curiosity, and instilling moral and civic virtues. Teachers provide students with a robust educational experience during each class period, ensuring they develop academically and personally. In addition, teachers are expected to maintain clear expectations, demonstrate subject matter expertise, and care for the individual growth of each student.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive theater curriculum that aligns with the school's classical education philosophy.
- Teach theater classes to students of various grade levels, focusing on acting, stagecraft, and theater history.
- Direct and produce school theater productions, including plays, musicals, and other performances.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and self-expression.
- Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback and support to help students improve their skills.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate the arts into the broader curriculum.
- Participate in school events, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Position Requirement:
- Bachelor's degree and passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area required
- Teachers with a bachelor's degree in the subject taught are preferred, or at a minimum 36 hours of higher education credit in the subject area of instruction. (In some cases, a passing grade in a content exam will suffice.)
- Strong background in relevant content areas with a willingness to receive specific training

- Proficiency in English verbal and written
- Proficiency in a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate information and issues
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their personal best
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment with superior organization and computer skills
- Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and team members
- Ability to provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
- Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability to challenges
- Patience, reliability, and a positive attitude
- Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
- Ability to stand, sit, and regularly use hands and fingers to operate a computer for extended period
- Must be able to supervise outdoor activities
