Title: Assistant Teacher - Physical Education
Location: New York, NY 10017
Employment Type: Part-Time (Monday to Friday 11:15am - 3:00pm)
Hourly Rate: $25 to $27 per hour

This requisition for the 2025–2026 school year. If selected, your tentative start date will be August 25, 2025.

Your Role as a Assistant Teacher - Physical Education

  • Plan and Deliver Engaging Instruction- Support the Head PE Teacher in designing and delivering dynamic physical education lessons that promote student participation, skill development, and wellness while aligning with curriculum goals.
  • Develop and Monitor Individualized Goals- Implement targeted physical activities that address students’ developmental and motor skill needs; observe, support, and adjust instruction to help students meet their individual PE goals.
  • Collaborate Across Educational Teams- Work closely with the Head PE Teacher, teaching teams, and school staff to support integrated instruction across disciplines and contribute to a cohesive, team-oriented educational environment.
  • Implement Behavior and Classroom Management Strategies- Apply school-wide behavior management programs and strategies within PE classes to promote respectful, safe, and organized learning environments for all students
  • Engage and Support Families- Contribute to communication efforts, including writing a PE-focused newsletter three times a year to keep families informed and engaged in students’ physical education experiences.
  • Advocate for Student Needs- Serve as a substitute for the Head PE Teacher when needed, ensuring consistent instruction and support for all learners. Assist with assessments and provide additional coverage in other specialty classes to support school-wide student needs.
  • Foster a Positive Learning Environment- Encourage student engagement and self-reliance through enthusiastic participation and relationship-building. Maintain a clean, prepared space that reflects and supports a vibrant PE curriculum.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A genuine passion for working with children, along with patience and compassion. 

Preferred/Nice to have:

  • Physical Education experience preferred.
  • Experience working with children with special needs or autism through volunteer work, employment, or other relevant experiences.
