What You'll Do:

As our Special Education Teacher, you'll be more than just an instructor – you'll be a:

  • Champion: You'll be a passionate advocate for all students with disabilities, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
  • Bridge Builder: You'll act as a liaison between teachers, administration, parents, and students, fostering open communication and collaboration.
  • Learning Architect: You'll create and implement effective instructional programs that meet the diverse needs of your students.
  • Skill Modeler: Guide learning, inspire and motivate students, to challenge them to meet their highest potential

Your Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary advocate for all students with disabilities.
  • Act as the liaison between teachers, administration, parents, and students.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Special Education best practices.
  • Utilize exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships.
  • Be extremely organized and detail-oriented.
  • Have the ability to problem-solve creatively and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Maintain proficiency in relevant subject areas and instructional techniques.
  • Sustain compliance in meeting all required deadlines.
  • Adhere to and support all school policies as outlined in the staff and student handbooks.
  • Actively participate in all staff orientations, meetings, in-services, grade or department-level team meetings, parent meetings, student conferences, and staff mission days.
  • Reflect critically on teaching practice and implement improvement strategies as needed.
  • Implement with high fidelity all components of the school's educational programs.
  • Engage in personal and professional development, goal setting, establishing classroom and school-wide performance standards, and assessing progress against those standards.
  • Direct and supervise the activity and performance of the instructional aide assigned to the classroom, involving them fully in the life of the classroom.
  • Maintain a classroom that demonstrates discipline, order, and a commitment to academic rigor.

What You'll Need (Qualifications):

  • LBS1 certification (Elementary Special Education).
  • NCLB Highly Qualified status.
  • Strong knowledge of special education procedures.
  • [If preferred, but not required]: 2 years of teaching experience in an urban high school environment.
