Job Title: Instructional Support Associate
Reports To: Reading/Math Interventionist
Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (10-Month Position)
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Instructional Support Associate is an integral member of the instructional team at UP Excellence Academy. This role supports teachers in delivering high-quality, equitable instruction and ensures that students receive the academic, behavioral, and emotional support they need to thrive. Working closely with lead teachers, school leaders, and specialized staff, the associate plays a vital role in classroom management, small group instruction, student supervision, and daily classroom operations.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about education, student success, and building the skills needed for future roles in teaching or student support services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Instructional Support (40%)
- Assist the lead teacher with lesson implementation and classroom routines
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce instructional material
- Support accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs, 504s, or ELL plans
- Help prepare and organize classroom materials and anchor charts
2. Student Engagement & Supervision (30%)
- Monitor student engagement during independent work and transitions
- Supervise students in various settings (hallways, recess, lunch, arrival/dismissal)
- Support de-escalation strategies and positive behavior interventions
- Foster a calm, safe, and joyful learning environment
3. Data Collection & Progress Monitoring (15%)
- Record student work and behavior data as requested by the teacher
- Monitor progress for specific interventions or goals
- Participate in data discussions and classroom planning meetings
4. Operational Support (15%)
- Assist with daily classroom logistics (distribution of supplies, technology setup, homework folders)
- Provide coverage in classrooms as needed
- Support school-wide systems during arrival, dismissal, lunch, and other duties
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to the mission and values of UP Excellence Academy
- Ability to take direction, work independently, and maintain confidentiality
- Work hours : 9am - 6pm
Preferred:
- Experience working with children in an educational setting
- Some college or pursuit of a teaching certification
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus
