About Our Organization:
The Norman Howard School was established in 1980 by parents and community professionals, and is a nonprofit, NYSED-approved, 12:1:1, academic, special education program. Students grades 5-12 from over 30 school districts experience a rich and diverse school culture, learn strategies for managing their special learning needs, and graduate alongside their public school peers.
Job Summary:
- We are seeking reliable and flexible Per-Diem Substitute Teachers to support our students in the absence of regular classroom teachers. The ideal candidate will maintain a positive learning environment, follow lesson plans, and ensure continuity of instruction across grade levels and subject areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular teacher.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures.
- Take attendance and document classroom activities as required.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and administrators.
- Follow all school safety and emergency procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of content-related pedagogy
- Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom and engage students.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Flexibility to work on short notice and adapt to different school environments and grade levels.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
- Valid NYS teaching certification preferred.
- Prior teaching or classroom experience preferred.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to different classroom environments and grade levels.
Work Schedule:
- On-call basis, as needed.
- Assignments may vary in length from a single day to multiple days.
Compensation:
- $130 Full Day (4 hours or more)
- $65 Half Day (less than 4 hours)
