Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Professional & Support Services, the Practice Operational Improvement Advisor serves as an internal performance improvement coach and provides hands-on guidance in multiple practice sites (primary care and specialty practices) for operational optimization. The Practice OI Advisor supports the organization in all aspects of physician practice performance improvement. The advisor will develop trusting relationships with the providers, leaders and office staff to provide end-to-end project management support and technical assistance with practice transformation and improved delivery of care. A primary function of this role is compiling and utilizing operational/clinical/quality data and assisting practices in implementing practice redesign and utilizing data to improve efficiency, quality outcomes, address health disparities, and support success in both value-based (MIPS, ACO, PCMH, payor specific initiatives) and fee-for-service payment systems. It is a role that requires a solid foundational understanding for the healthcare delivery system, administrative and/or clinical experience, exceptional change management ability, proven communication skills, organizational and time management, customer service, and teamwork skills. The Practice OI Advisor drives transformation and demonstrates effective and efficient leadership, consultation, project management, relationship building, communication, decision making, execution and accountability.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in health administration, business administration, healthcare/clinical field or other relevant field of study or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of progressive healthcare-based experience required
- Minimum of 1 year experience leading or coaching performance improvement projects in a healthcare setting.
- Change Management Experience preferred
- Experience in a physician practice setting, working on quality improvement initiatives including MIPS, ACO, PCMH; practice transformation, billing/coding; or healthcare project management preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
- Valid NC drivers license (local travel is required) and insurable under hospital coverage required.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
- Lean/Six Sigma Preferred
Essential Functions:
- Compiles data collection, verification and validation of clinical quality and business metrics to identify patterns and produce meaningful management reports.
- Responsible for the evaluation of processes/clinical workflows and staffing models for optimization opportunities and conducts on-site assessments providing recommendations for best practice care.
- Facilitates the development and implementation of action plans for clinical processes and operational practice improvement.
- Meets with providers, leadership, and staff regularly to manage reports and/or data while providing guidance, recommendations, and setting action plans for meeting project milestones. This includes effective relationship management, problem solving for effective progression towards goals, communicating areas of concern, barriers to achieving goals, and suggestions for improvement.
- Educates providers and staff on the quality payment program requirements, value-based purchasing, and fee-for-service opportunities.
- Provides coaching and assists clinical staff regarding clinical workflows for optimization and documentation improvement.
- Coaches practices on ways to optimize use of the EHR, telehealth, clinical workflows, quality improvement and chronic disease management, to meet both practice requests and mandated guidelines.
- Maintains data on practices and assigned projects (i.e. status of projects, dashboards, etc.).
- Develops tip-sheets and diagrams outlining processes for improved workflows.
- Provides comprehensive operational reviews and internal control audits.

Other Skills:
- Organization (including planning & prioritizing), ability to multi-task and time management skills, strong communication (written and oral), customer service skills, and the ability to work well with individuals and within a team are required.
- Comfortable leading meetings and presenting with individuals at all levels
- Ability to respond creatively to the rapidly changing environment are essential.
- Proficient in using an electronic health record (EHR) system. (Athena and Meditech preferred)
- Proficient in the use of remote meetings (i.e. zoom, teams, etc.)
- Must be fluent in Excel and pivot charts, as well as PowerPoint, to create reports and present data. Proficiency in other Windows based applications include: Word, One Note, Teams, and Outlook.
- Good understanding of procedure codes.
- Knowledge of clinic operations and strong understanding of business processes.
- Ability to perform under deadlines and heavy workloads.
