Job Description

Carney, Sandoe & Associates is the largest educational recruitment firm working to help K-12 independent, private, charter, and like-kind (non-public) schools nation and worldwide hire the best teachers, administrators, coaches, and leaders. Since 1977, we’ve “made the match” for more than 33,000 job seekers and over 1,500 schools.

A little about us:

  • We’re passionate about education and finding the best teachers, staff, and leaders to run K-12 independent schools. Many of us come from education backgrounds.
  • We value diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging – both within our organization and in support of the schools we partner with.
  • We take innovation seriously, but we also focus heavily on the importance of building relationships.
  • We love what we do and we work hard. We also love to laugh.

A career at Carney Sandoe is an opportunity to help sustain and advance independent schools, to bring joy to the job search process, to be part of the intersection of business and education, and to work with a group of talented and driven colleagues. We hope you are as excited about the prospect of joining our team as we are to welcome you!

The role of Placement Counselor:

CS&A is seeking a Placement Counselor to join our Placement Group, which works to help schools hire teachers, staff, athletic coaches, and senior administrators. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Boston, MA. You will be required to work in our downtown Boston office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

A bit of background – Our Placement Group is divided by subject area or role, and most members of the Placement Group are responsible for a specific subject area or role. For example, we have a colleague who helps schools fill their open mathematics teaching positions and only works with our math job seekers.

As a Placement Counselor (PC), you’ll be instrumental both in helping our partner schools meet their hiring needs and in helping job seekers find their next opportunities. It’s your job to work individually with schools to understand their open positions, present highly-qualified candidates, offer excellent customer service, and build strong collegial relationships. It’s also your job to understand each candidate’s job search motivations, match candidates with appropriate open positions, and provide guidance and encouragement.

What you get to do:

As a Placement Counselor, your role is twofold. First, you will support a Placement Associate (PA) with their assigned subject area/role in a variety of ways. Second, you will be assigned your own subject area/role and will manage those associated responsibilities.

  • Support your PA and their assigned subject/area as instructed by the PA. This includes but is not limited to: phone calls with schools and candidates, candidate interviews, email communication with schools and candidates, data entry, database work, follow-up communications, billing, and other administrative and customer service tasks.
  • Manage ownership of your own subject area/role, helping schools to fill their open roles and helping candidates find new opportunities. This includes but is not limited to: phone calls with schools and candidates, candidate interviews, email communication with schools and candidates, data entry, database work, follow-up communications, billing, partnering with the Recruitment Team, and other administrative and customer service tasks.
  • Participate in our client school visit and college recruitment programs both in-person and virtually; some travel required.
  • Assist in preparation and support of our annual hiring conferences held in cities across the country.
  • Collaborate in teams or independently on special projects and assignments on an as-needed basis.
  • Take an active interest in supporting the success and future growth of CS&A during meetings and other company activities.

What we’re looking for:

  • A bachelor’s degree (required).
  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience (preferred but not required).
  • The ability to prioritize and handle diverse responsibilities simultaneously in an efficient, organized manner.
  • A high degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and exceptional listening skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
  • A highly collaborative working style where you feel energized by working as part of a team.
  • Proficient technology skills.
  • Willingness to become an expert in the educational recruitment industry.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice initiatives.

What’s in it for you:

  • A competitive salary, plus a significant bonus structure based on performance.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401k with employer contribution.
  • Flexible work-from-home policy; required in-office only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Additional allotment of “work from home” and summer half-days.

To Apply:

Interested candidates should send a resume to Rice Bryan and Donisha Thaxton, Co-Directors of Internal Hiring, at opportunities@carneysandoe.com.
