ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

The Student Wellness Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for developing, planning, and executing student-centered programs to enhance student wellbeing across the domains of wellness (emotional, intellectual, physical, environmental, occupational/academic, financial, social, spiritual). The Coordinator is based at the Scranton campus while providing support for our satellite Centers across Eastern Pennsylvania. The Coordinator’s ultimate goal is to promote students’ goal achievement and personal growth at LC and beyond. The Coordinator works closely with Athletics, Residence Life, Student Life, Student Success, and Student Accountability and Restorative Practices (SARP) to identify and mitigate concerns through positive engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinate with college staff and faculty in the identification of students in need of intervention.
  2. Facilitate student use of available college services and resources or referral to appropriate agencies in the local community.
  3. Provide individual assessment, support and referral for substance use and mental health concerns as needed.
  4. Conduct student assessments; provide analysis, reporting and follow-up activities.
  5. Assist with the provision of in-service training of faculty and staff on substance abuse issues and other wellness issues including sexual assault risk reduction and suicide prevention.
  6. Develop and execute regular student-focused workshops, seminars and educational programming, using in-house or agency resources, on issues related to student adjustment to college life, binge drinking, drug use, diversity, mental health, financial wellness, and other relevant topics.
  7. Maintain current information within SWP Resource Center and web-based platform on substance use and wellness issues.
  8. Work with the Dean of Students and Assistant Dean of Students to assist with handling of student disciplinary actions, providing individual assessment and prevention education to students.
  9. Maintain tracking information for all student referrals, assessments, and outcomes and attendance and outcome data for departmental trainings.
  10. Maintain complete records of student use of services and provide semester reports and analysis.
  11. Work closely with Residence Life staff and Student Life staff in implementing programming designed to facilitate student engagement in the college community.
  12. Address issues of adjustment to college life with diverse student groups through individual or group efforts.
  13. Assist with the maintenance of the Student Wellness webpage and other multimedia platforms.
  14. Provide student support and crisis intervention services as necessary. This may be required outside normal business hours.
  15. Work with community partners through grants and other college related initiatives.
  16. Maintain confidentiality around student data in accordance with appropriate local, state, and federal regulations.
  17. Additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Ability to advise on mental health and wellness issues using evidence-based practices and ethical decision-making.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff.
  • Must have the ability to handle confidential situations with compassion, sensitivity and diplomacy, acting in an objective and impartial manner at all times.
  • Trauma-competent assessment, systems navigation, and referral values and practices.Ability to work flexible hours as necessary.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or other related field required.
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or other related mental health field preferred; license preferred but not required.
  • Must maintain professional qualification through continuing education, training and development.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Counseling experience in substance use disorder and mental health prevention, education, and assessment.
  • Experienced in providing group presentations and implementing student programming.
  • Experience working with a diverse population required.
  • Experience working in and building a team environment, especially within intercollegiate athletics or student organizations. Ability to converse in languages other than English, preferred.
