Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHHT) to serve students across the Norfolk and Virginia Beach area schools for the 2025–2026 academic year. This full-time, on-site role supports students with hearing impairments by providing specialized instruction, promoting language development, and collaborating with educational staff to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative instructional services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, in both general and special education settings.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs.
- Utilize appropriate communication methods such as American Sign Language (ASL), spoken language, cued speech, or total communication, based on student needs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, interpreters, audiologists, and support staff to promote student success.
- Monitor and report on student progress toward IEP goals and provide regular updates to families and IEP teams.
- Support and educate school staff regarding hearing loss and accessibility strategies.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations related to special education services.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field.
- Valid Virginia teaching license with endorsement in Hearing Impairments (PreK–12).
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred.
- Previous school-based experience preferred but not required.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
