Summary
2nd Presbyterian Weekday School is hiring substitute teachers for the 2025-2026 school year! We are looking for passionate and creative early childhood educators to join our teaching community. 2nd Pres. believes learning starts with safe and healthy relationships between teachers and children. From there, our curriculum is a balance of developmental milestones and supporting children's interests through hands-on, experiential learning. We serve children 6 weeks through kindergarten and utilize our beautiful building and outdoor campus for all ages.
We offer substitute teaching positions (8:45 AM - 12:45 PM) to candidates with classroom experience and for those excited to get started in the ECE field. We offer after school positions for those interested in working our Lunch Bunch (12:00-3:00) or After Care (3:00-5:00) program.Our program runs from the end of August through May, and we follow a traditional school calendar and close for both Christmas and Spring break.
Duties
- Collaborative classroom; encourage teaching team success through following directives from teachers
- Engage in individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
- Maintain frequent and positive communications with parents.
- Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
- Ensure a healthy classroom environment - including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
- Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
Requirements
- Strong oral communication skills.
- High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
- An understanding of child development.
- Must clear a full background check and must pass health screening.
- Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear children's voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl and lift a child up to 50 lbs.
- A specific vision ability will be required including the ability to see up close and up to a certain distance, to see colors, have peripheral vision and depth perception.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Nice To Haves
- Minimum of 2 years of professional childcare experience preferred.
- Associate's degree in early childhood education or related field of study.

- In general, we close for most Jefferson County snow days but not necessarily for school cancellations due to extreme cold. We make up only a portion of days missed.
- Teachers may use the library, atrium or other areas of our campus for a quiet space to each lunch and relax when on breaks.
