Job DescriptionDescription:

Teaching assistants provide instructional services to students on a one-to-one or small group basis, maintaining respect for the individual children and families and respecting cultural differences as appropriate, under the general supervision of a Teacher.


Essential Functions

  • Uphold the Agency philosophy, policies & the "3IP's" at all times, providing dignified, safe and interesting activities and services
  • Provide the teacher with information which will assist the teacher in developing an
  • Appropriate learning experience
  • Prepare incident reports
  • Contribute classroom planning
  • Participate in classroom conferences
  • Any other related activity assigned by the teacher


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of early childhood development, approved behavior management plans and emergency management
  • Supervision of children in case of teacher absence and carrying out teacher plans and routines.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow Agency and departmental policies and procedures
  • Good written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with staff and parents
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to maintain accurate records and pay close attention to detail
  • Good arithmetic skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of and ability to use a computer and work in a Microsoft Office/Excel environment
  • Ability to work independently and use appropriate judgment

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday 3 hours per day

Lunch coverage Teachers Assistant will cover in classrooms when classroom staff are taking lunch breaks. Duties include executing lessons as directed by classroom teacher, toileting, serving meals and any other job related duties as noted in GEC’s Teachers Assistant job description.


Requirements:


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Pass State Education Department Teaching Assistant Exam
  1. Certification required as a Level I, Level II, Level m, Pre-Professional, Temporary or Continuing Teaching Assistant Certificate
  • Department of Health/Bureau of Day Care pursuant to Section 47.IO of the New York City Health Code.
  • Screening procedure according to Section 47.15 of the New York City Health Code.
