Job DescriptionMinimum 1+ years visually impaired experience required.

This opportunity calls for skilled instructors specializing in serving students with visual impairments. The position offers up to 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE) with flexibility for part-time arrangements (0.5 to 1.0 FTE), available immediately through June 21, 2024, in various school locations throughout Everett, WA.

Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe educational materialsincluding books, workbooks, tests, tactile maps, and graphsinto braille, large print, and electronic formats.
  • Maintain accurate records and properly labeled electronic files of all transcriptions for future reference.
  • Coordinate with teachers of students with visual impairments (TSVI) to adapt materials tailored to individual student needs.
  • Stay current with braille production technologies and assistive tech interfacing.
  • Manage supply inventory and order materials necessary for job functions.
  • Develop and update a resource file to access alternative sources of braille, large print, or electronic instructional materials.
  • Demonstrate strong command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.

Qualifications:

  • Washington State teaching license and certification in visual impairment required.
  • Fingerprints on file with OSPI prior to starting.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite at multiple district campuses.
  • Competency in braille transcription or a willingness to learn and demonstrate proficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to supporting students accessibility needs through high-quality alternative media.
