STUDENT ACCOUNTS SPECIALIST
Overview:
Processes student financial account activity, including student payments, refunds, loan agreements, third-party contracts, or other student activity. Assists with resolving payment or documentation issues encountered by students and other related parties. Provides customer service and support to students, families, departments, and sponsors regarding student financial account balances, tuition and fee charges, payments, refunds, loans, or other student financial account activity. The Student Accounts Specialist reports to the Controller.
Job Responsibilities:
Job duties for this role include (but are not limited to) the following requirements as demonstrated in TRACS accreditation requirements, Financial Aid Guide/Policies and Procedures handbook, and state requirements with the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (GNPEC):
- Process student account transactions with accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage student stipend disbursements in accordance with Title IV guidelines.
- Maintain the Student Aging Report to ensure proper assessment of charges and payments.
- Analyze student accounts and receivables to support financial reporting.
- Generate monthly collection activity and cash reconciliation reports.
- Assist external auditors during the year-end close and respond to internal audit requests.
- Handle billing processes, notifications, and follow-ups on outstanding student balances.
- Perform monthly reconciliations for student accounts receivable, direct loans, institutional loans, and other student financial accounts.
- Coordinate with Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, and other departments to improve efficiencies and establish effective financial procedures.
- Cultivate a strong customer service culture within the department.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in alignment with institutional policies and accreditation requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field required
Experience:
- Two (2) years of education or experience in a business-related field is preferred, with preference given to accounting, financial aid, or customer service; or a combination of education and experience.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Excellent math and computation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and cash management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Full-time position (40 hours per week). Occasional evening and weekend work is required during peak periods, such as registration.
