OVERVIEW

The Director of Meetings and Education serves as the strategic integrator of ASPS’s educational content and event execution. This leader ensures the successful delivery of high-quality, compliant, and financially sound educational programming across in-person, virtual, and hybrid formats. They oversee the planning, production, and assessment of clinical symposia, board prep, practice management, and Annual Meeting education, among other offerings.

Critically, this individual is also responsible for recognizing emerging trends in adult learning, technology, and event design—translating them into enhancements that meet the evolving needs of ASPS members and stakeholders. They are a skilled contract negotiator, a cross-functional team leader, and an advocate for innovation in content delivery.

Reports to: Vice President, Education, Meetings and Development

Supervises: (5) Manager, Meetings; Manager, Live Programming; Manager, Online Education; Program Manager, Accreditation; Program Administrator, Education

Location: Chicagoland area

Travel: 4-5 wks/yr

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Strategic Integration

• Lead the unification of ASPS’s Education and Meetings functions to build and maintain a cohesive, learner-centered strategy.

• Collaborate with Society leadership, members, and staff to ensure programming supports ASPS’s mission and business goals.

• Actively monitor the external landscape to recognize changes in learning preferences, technology, and event formats – proactively shaping ASPS’s offerings in response.

• Actively evaluate and implement innovative solutions, such as Artificial Intelligence, that improve workflow efficiency, educational design, and internal collaboration across development functions.

Program and Event Management

• Direct the design, development, and execution of CME-accredited educational activities, ensuring compliance with ACCME standards and other applicable regulations, and non-CME-accredited activities in alignment with ASPS guidelines and best practices.

• Oversee operational delivery of ASPS meetings and educational events, including speaker management, program formatting, logistics, and post-event analysis.

• Evaluate educational and engagement data to drive continual improvement and innovation across the program portfolio.

Vendor Management and Risk Mitigation

• Serve as ASPS’s primary point of contact and lead negotiator for all major contracts related to venues, virtual platforms, speakers, meeting and event suppliers and third-party vendors.

• Interpret, draft, and negotiate complex contracts to ensure financial value, legal protection, and operational flexibility.

• Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders on risk assessments and cost-benefit analyses.

Team Leadership

• Manage and mentor staff across Education and Meetings, cultivating expertise in event strategy, compliance, content delivery, and data-based decision making.

• Foster a collaborative culture of accountability, innovation, and member-centered service.

• Ensure team goals align with broader divisional and organizational objectives.

Budget Oversight

• Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for Education and Meetings.

• Monitor and report financial performance, ensuring alignment with forecast and return on investment expectations.

• Support revenue generation through integration of stakeholder engagement and cost-effective operations.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in a related field such as Education, Public Health, or Event/Hospitality Management preferred.

Experience: 7–10 years’ progressive experience in healthcare education and/or meetings/events leadership, with at least 3 years overseeing ACCME-accredited activities.

Demonstrated success in complex contract negotiation and cross-departmental project execution.

Experience driving revenue-generating program innovation and integrating member feedback into education/event design.

Certifications: CMP and/or CHCP preferred.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Employment Type: Full Time

Annual Salary: $125-140,000

Eligible for Overtime: No

Hours per Week: 37.5
