Position Summary
The Lyon County School District is seeking a compassionate, dynamic, and collaborative School Psychologist to join our team for the 20252026 academic year. Based in the welcoming community of Yerington, Nevada, this full-time position supports students from Kindergarten through 9th grade across multiple schools. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of child development, learning processes, and mental health, and will be committed to helping students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Evaluation:

Conduct psychoeducational evaluations for referred students (cognitive, academic, behavioral, emotional, and social assessments).

Interpret data to determine eligibility for special education services in compliance with IDEA and Nevada state guidelines.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.

Consultation & Collaboration:

Work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to create supportive learning environments.

Provide professional guidance to staff on behavioral interventions, instructional strategies, and mental health supports.

Serve as a resource in MTSS/RTI meetings and student support teams.

Intervention & Counseling:

Deliver individual and small-group counseling to address issues such as anxiety, grief, self-regulation, and social skills.

Support crisis intervention efforts and provide trauma-informed care.

Help develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and social-emotional learning programs.

Prevention & Advocacy:
-
Promote positive school climate and mental wellness initiatives.

Train staff and students on mental health awareness, bullying prevention, and suicide prevention strategies.

Advocate for equitable access to educational and psychological services for all students.
Required Qualifications
-
Master's or Specialist-level degree (Ed.S., MA, or equivalent) in School Psychology from an accredited program

Valid Nevada Department of Education School Psychologist license (or eligible by start date)

Knowledge of federal and Nevada special education laws and procedures
-
Proficient in assessment tools such as WISC-V, BASC-3, Woodcock-Johnson, etc.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

Ability to work with diverse populations and age groups from K9
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in rural or close-knit school communities

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
