We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Staff Member to join our team at our residential substance abuse addiction treatment center. In this role, you will be instrumental in providing day-to-day support to clients in their recovery journey, ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive environment. The ideal candidate will have a genuine desire to help others and contribute to a positive atmosphere conducive to recovery and well-being. A current and valid RADT or equivalent is required and will be confirmed prior to scheduling interviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support clients in the residential treatment facility, ensuring adherence to center rules and policies while promoting a safe and respectful environment.
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as meal preparation, personal hygiene, and maintaining a clean and organized living space.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to clients as they navigate their recovery process.
- Monitor clients’ behavior and provide immediate assistance or intervention when necessary, including reporting any safety concerns or behavioral issues to senior staff.
- Facilitate group activities and discussions designed to foster community, personal growth, and recovery skills.
- Assist in conducting regular room checks, ensuring clients’ safety and compliance with the treatment center’s policies.
- Support staff in maintaining records related to client participation, attendance, and behavior.
- Help implement and reinforce individual treatment plans, offering encouragement and feedback to clients as they work towards their goals.
- Escort clients to appointments, group therapy, 12-step meetings, and other off-site activities as needed.
- Maintain communication with the clinical team, including therapists, case managers, and other support staff, to ensure clients is receiving the appropriate care.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as maintaining logs, completing reports, and organizing client materials.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed about best practices in addiction treatment and residential support.
- Model healthy behaviors and recovery principles, including positive coping skills and emotional regulation, to clients and the team.
- Support the cleanliness and order of the facility by performing light housekeeping duties and ensuring that shared spaces are organized and welcoming.
- This position is also known as: Behavioral Health Technician; Recovery Specialist; Registered Behavioral Health Tech.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework in psychology, social work, or related fields is preferred.
- Certified Medical Peer Support Specialist (CMPSS) is required.
- First Aid/CPR certification is required
- Experience in a supportive or care giving role, particularly in substance abuse, mental health or healthcare setting, is highly desirable.
- Compassionate, non-judgmental, and empathetic attitude toward individuals in recovery from addiction.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while developing rapport with clients.
- Understanding of addiction, recovery, and the challenges individuals face during treatment.
- Ability to handle crisis situations and de-escalate conflicts as they arise.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to document client information accurately.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evening, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- A drug screening, background check, health screening with TB testing is required as part of our pre-employment process and all offers are contingent upon successful.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily in the residential treatment facility, including client living areas, common areas and offices.
- Occasional travel may be required for off-site appointments and activities.
- Shifts may vary, including evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts.
- Interaction with clients in various stages of recovery and with different needs.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift or move light objects
- Ability to stay awake during shift
