GOLF MAINTENANGCE INTERN
JOB TITLE: GCM Intern
WORK AREA: Golf Course

JOB SUMMARY: The Intern will assist in all facets of golf course maintenance under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent. Areas will include daily course maintenance, landscaping, scheduling, crew supervision and training, calibrations, irrigation use and repair, and pesticide/fertilizer applications.
OUTLINES OF AREAS TO BE COVERED DUING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:
• Work with golf maintenance techs to perform all basic duties required to maintain golf course daily.
• Assist Superintendents in coordinating daily scheduling of crew duties.
• Work closely with Assistant Superintendents to learn the processes for application of pesticides and fertilizers.
• Train to operate all equipment associated with golf maintenance.
• Identify problems and makes recommendations to Superintendent.
• Tour with Golf Superintendent to inspect golf course grounds, clubhouse grounds, landscaping and maintenance equipment.
• Conduct one inventory of supplies and review MSDS book for accuracy.
• Participate in training session with HR to review hiring and disciplinary practices.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
• 2 or more years experience in golf course maintenance is preferred.
• Associate’s Degree in turf management preferred.
• Mixing and spraying fertilizers and pesticides experience is required, Pesticide License is a plus.
• Irrigation installation, troubleshooting, repair, and scheduling exp is required.
• Basic understanding of operating lawn care equipment and its safety procedures.
• Must be accurate and have strong attention to detail.
• Ability to operate motorized equipment.
• Ability to work over time, weekends and holidays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to lift 60 lbs. frequently.
• Ability to walk 3-5 miles a day.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical work on a daily basis to include frequent handling, reaching, lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing.
• Ability to work both indoor and outdoor in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold while being exposed to all forms of precipitation.
