Mennonite Disaster Service is a volunteer network of Anabaptist churches that responds in Christian love to those affected by disasters in Canada and the United States. While the main focus is on clean up, repair and rebuilding homes, this service touches lives and nurtures hope, faith and wholeness.

Position Description:
Helps fulfill the missions of Mennonite Disaster Service and Eastern Mennonite School by providing hands-on service learning opportunities associated with the planning and construction of housing wall units.
Key Responsibilities:
Serves as a role model for students a strong personal faith and commitment to following Jesus by:
- Showing care and compassion for students and colleagues.
- Sharing faith and knowledge of what it means to follow Jesus as developmentally appropriate.
- Maintaining integrity in all relationships.
Exhibits professional practices that enhance classroom practice:
- Shows habits of punctuality.
- Completes teacher tasks in a regular and timely manner.
- Dresses in a manner which elicits the respect of students, parents, colleagues and other broader constituencies.
- Supports school policies and decisions.
- Periodically seeks written feedback from students in each class, and provides the results to the administration for review and comment.
- Cultivates positive communication with students and parents.
- Monitors student behaviors, language and attitudes in settings on campus in accordance with school policy.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues to further the effectiveness of instruction.
Strives to improve classroom instruction and to facilitate the learning process for students:
- Develop and/or update a curriculum scope and sequence for each course taught, including content skills and objectives, instructional strategies, assessments, and field trip opportunities.
- Develops a comprehensive syllabus for each class, including course objectives, projected schedule of activities, assessment procedures and an objective grading system easily understood by students and parents.
- Prepares daily and unit lesson plans for each class.
- Applies tested and validated teaching techniques appropriate to the content and the developmental abilities of the students.
- Manages class activities in a manner which requires students to develop a framework for understanding content knowledge and responding to knowledge in an analytical way.
- Carries out in a consistent manner, appropriate classroom discipline procedures.
- Regularly and appropriately integrates faith and scriptures into classroom activities.
- Builds content area expertise through consistent and ongoing professional development.
- Keeps parents abreast of student progress in accordance with school policy and in a manner which reflects the teachers position as advocate for the student.
- Integrates appropriate technology into the learning environment.
- Maintains connections to other professionals through discussion, classroom observation.

- Proficient with appropriate technology and safety expectations for the course
- High personal standards for professional development
