Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation’s largest gun violence prevention organization, is seeking a Summer 2025 Everytown Labs Intern. Everytown Labs is an innovation hub within Everytown For Gun Safety Support Fund that accelerates promising technology, including artificial intelligence, to support our gun safety mission. In this role, the Intern will contribute to researching new technologies, leveraging AI to surface new insights on gun violence and policies, developing our digital products, and providing technical expertise to the team.

Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund (the “Everytown Support Fund”) is the education, research, and litigation arm of Everytown for Gun Safety. The Everytown Support Fund seeks to improve our understanding of the causes of gun violence and help to reduce it by conducting groundbreaking original research, developing evidence-based policies, communicating this knowledge to the American public, and advancing gun safety and gun violence prevention in communities and the courts. Primary Responsibilities:

You will work closely with the senior director of Everytown Labs and members of the Everytown Labs team on various activities to support our work. Some examples:

  • Draft blog posts for our Everytown Labs website, highlighting insights and evaluating new technologies
  • Research and Surface new data sources to add to the Everytown knowledge base
  • Help with weekly vetting of gun violence data
  • Support improvements to our existing AI-powered digital products, e.g.
    • Write code to help upgrade key features
    • Work on minor bug fixes and enhancements
    • Document technical specifications and processes
    • Help prepare an evaluation dataset for our AI-powered chatbot, and run evaluation of our chatbot against queries in the evaluation dataset

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in college studies, including computer science-related courses
  • Experience working with any coding or scripting language is a plus, even at a beginner level
  • Basic understanding of APIs or willingness to learn how to integrate data sources using API documentation
  • Interest in use of AI for good
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication skills in presenting work to a non-technical audience
  • Interest in nonprofit advocacy organizations

Location: New York City (hybrid 2 days/week in office, 3 days/week at home.) Remote can be an option for the right candidate.

Salary: The minimum hourly rate for this role is $17.00 p/hr

Timing: June 2 to Aug 15

About the Hiring Process

  • Candidates must submit a resume AND a cover letter (max 1 page) to be considered
  • Candidates moved into the recruitment process will be invited to a 30-minute phone interview with a member of the hiring team
  • Candidates who advance to the final stage of the recruitment process will participate in a 30-45 minute virtual interview with the Director of Everytown Labs
