About the Role:

The Literacy Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the reading and writing skills of individuals within the community, ultimately aiming to improve their overall quality of life. This position involves developing and implementing tailored literacy programs that cater to diverse learning needs and backgrounds. The specialist will assess the literacy levels of participants and provide targeted support to help them achieve their personal and educational goals. Collaboration with local organizations and stakeholders is essential to create a supportive environment for literacy development. By fostering a love for reading and writing, the Literacy Specialist will empower individuals to become more confident and capable communicators.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field.
• Experience in teaching or tutoring literacy skills to diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Literacy Education or a related field.
• Certification in adult education or literacy instruction.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct assessments to determine the literacy levels of participants and identify specific areas for improvement.
• Design and implement individualized literacy programs that address the unique needs of each participant.
• Facilitate group workshops and one-on-one tutoring sessions to enhance reading and writing skills.
• Collaborate with community organizations, schools, and libraries to promote literacy initiatives and resources.
• Monitor and evaluate the progress of participants, providing feedback and adjusting programs as necessary.

Skills:

The required skills for this position include strong communication and interpersonal abilities, which are essential for effectively engaging with participants and understanding their unique challenges. Organizational skills are crucial for developing structured literacy programs and managing multiple participants' progress simultaneously. Additionally, a deep understanding of literacy development theories will guide the specialist in creating effective instructional strategies. Preferred skills, such as experience with digital literacy tools, will enhance the learning experience and provide participants with modern resources. Overall, these skills will enable the Literacy Specialist to create a positive and impactful learning environment that fosters growth and confidence in literacy.

TRAVEL:

Travel will be required to multiple Club facilities throughout Pinellas County for training and/or other business purposes.
