Summary: To deliver high quality instruction by developing and implementing engaging curriculum, providing hands-on training and preparing students for successful careers in sales and marketing. This position requires a passion for education industry expertise and a commitment to student success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work is performed under the general supervision of administration. An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following (does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform):
- Develops and implements curriculum aligned with Michigan CTE Sales and Marketing standards and competencies.
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Oversees the operation of the school store, including but not limited to, ordering and maintaining store inventory.
- Teaches curriculum by using clear objectives with students.
- Applies a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitation of the locations provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports.
- Integrates industry-standard software and technologies into instruction.
- Seeks assistance for students demonstrating difficulties in classroom learning activities.
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law and district policy.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day.
- Maintains and cares for facilities, equipment and inventory; and notifies appropriate administration of the need for outside maintenance.
- Follows and enforces all policies and procedures in support of a safe work environment for students and staff.
- Maintains an advisory committee of at least seven people.
- Has responsibility for the program budget (expenditures and incomes) and making recommendations to administration for purchases.
- Follows all building, staff handbook and Board of Education policies and guidelines.
- Willingness to participate in Professional Development activities, some of which may be outside the contractual workday.
- Facilitates student participation in DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) and other relevant student organizations.
- Participates in activities related to cooperative education, placement and employer contracts.
- Makes provision for being available, but not required, for in-building and ISD activities and committees in various public relations, community and marketing activities beyond contractual obligations.
- Regular and predictable in-person attendance is required for this position.
- Other duties assigned by the principal or designee.
Education and Experience:
- Must have an associate's degree in a related field, with an intention of obtaining a bachelor's degree. Candidates with a bachelor's degree may be given preference.
- Must have at least two years (4,000 hours) of recent and relevant paid work experience in the Sales and Marketing field within the last ten years of hire date and maintained throughout the period of employment until a standard CTE teaching certificate is earned. Evidence of work experience must be included with the application.
- Must be able to demonstrate current technical knowledge and ability in the Sales and Marketing field.
- Experience in teaching or employee training is preferred.
- Successful experience relating to students of various skill levels, academic levels, learning styles, and diverse ethnic and gender backgrounds.
- Successful experience working cooperatively with others.
- Knowledge of potential student work experience and cooperative education placements preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to demonstrate basic computer skills. Candidates with proficiency in using technology for instruction and communication may be given preference.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Candidates must have or be able to obtain appropriate professional certification and endorsement upon employment. For this position, that may initially be an Annual Career Authorization or a Standard Career & Technical Education (CTE) certification and endorsement upon employment. If a fully certified occupational teacher is not available, consideration may be given to an applicant who has the experience to qualify for Annual Career Authorization. A valid Michigan driver's license and good driving record is required for this position.
Employment Date, Salary, and Fringe Benefits: Anticipated employment date is August 18, 2025. Placement on the Instructor salary schedule depends upon qualifications and experience. New employee starting hourly pay range is $51,526-$88,995. Paid family health, dental and vision benefits; long term disability insurance; life insurance; paid sick and personal business days.
