This position offers an engaging opportunity to teach combined Autism support classes for middle and high school students in grades 8 and 9. The role focuses on supporting high-functioning students with Autism in a self-contained, transition class setting. The teaching schedule runs Monday through Friday, from 7:10 AM to 2:40 PM during the school year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver instruction in core subjects including social studies, math, English language arts (ELA), and social skills development.
- Support students social skill growth and manage some behavioral challenges in the classroom.
- Collaborate with two or more paraprofessionals to provide individualized attention and support.
- Manage a self-contained classroom with 6 students (up to 8 maximum), maintaining an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Utilize planning time effectively, including one 45-70 minute block and a 30-minute lunch break.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teaching Certification is required; emergency certification candidates will not be considered.
- Experience working with students on the Autism spectrum is preferred.
- Ability to support social skills development and address behavioral needs.
- Experience or openness to working in a transition class geared toward high-functioning Autism.
