Major Responsibilities:
-Oversees the delivery of high quality services in special education.
-Provides a vision and goals for the development of the special education program.
-Coordinate and oversee all required special education meetings to maintain compliance with state
and federal laws.
-Coordinate the development of all Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) for special needs
students.
-In collaboration with the Special Education Liaison(s) ensure the service delivery component of
each
IEP.
-Oversee the development and maintenance of complete individual records of all students receiving
special services.
-Coordinate a pre-referral process to address student difficulties and identify needed
accommodations
in regular education, special education, or on a 504 plan.
-Oversee the development of transition plans for all special education students and maintain a
current
referral resources and services list to assist in development.
-Maintain liaison with special needs staff in the sending schools, and participate in and organize
admission team meetings.
-Maintain current understanding of the legal requirements for federal, state and local compliance,
including but not limited to, with Ch 766, PL 94-142, IDEA, and Sec 504.
-Advises the Superintendent on issues in special education that require changes in service delivery,
additional staffing, or potential litigation
-Prepare local, state and federal reports on special needs programs and related grants.
-Provide and coordinate in-service training in the area of special needs for all staff.
-Convene meetings of the Special Needs Parent Advisory Council, and attend meetings of the State
and Vocational Special Education Directors Associations.
-Assist in the adoption of school policies to include special educational needs.
-Assist in and oversee the budget preparation for special needs programs.
-Process and monitor the Medicaid reimbursement program.
-Represent Assabet Valley RVSD to the Department of Education in special education matters.
-Evaluate staff as directed by the Principal to promote professional growth and student achievement.
-Participate as a member of the Administrative Team in helping to lead the school district.
-Perform other duties as required as directed by the Superintendent-Director, or by his/her designee.
Job Requirements:
-MA Department of Elementary Secondary Education (DESE) certification as Administrator
of Special Education required.
-Master’s Degree required.
-Minimum of five years’ experience working in the Special Education field as a Director
preferred.
-Previous experience in or knowledge of Career and Technical Education (CTE) preferred.
-Special Education classroom teaching preferred.
-Experience in the process, procedure and development of the Individualized Education
Plans (IEP).
-Experience with electronic student databases and Microsoft Suite required.
-Ability to communicate effectively, with all stakeholders, in writing, speaking and presenting.
-Ability to identify problems, analyze situations, develop potential solutions, and work with a
variety of school and non-school personnel to reach consensus.
-Proficiency in use of technology, educational software and apps
-At least 5 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
-Master degree preferred.
-Citizenship, residency or work visa required
