CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, LLC (CHBWV) is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1 – Facility Disposition Project at the West Valley Demonstration Project. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, CHBWV continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Training Specialist II will develop and coordinate technical training, qualification and professional development programs for site personnel in accordance with regulatory orders, performance-based training principles and analyzed needs.

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or the recognized equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
  • Must have knowledge and experience consistent with the technical material to be presented.

Other Requirements:

  • May need to support training for shift workers.
  • Must have knowledge of job task analysis techniques and nuclear energy topics.
  • Must be able to interpret the current regulatory orders and develop training methods to facilitate implementation. Must possess resourcefulness to determine solutions to problems identified as training related and take initiative to achieve stated objectives.
  • Must be able to work under general supervision and follow detailed written and verbal instructions to perform assigned tasks according to established procedures.
  • Must be able to use own judgment in locating and selecting most appropriate guidelines, references, and procedures.
  • Must be able to execute a broad scope of specific training practices affecting the accuracy, reliability, or acceptability of further processes.
  • Must possess well-established personal communication skills required to present information clearly and explain subjects or systems to operators, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be able utilize PowerPoint and be able to perform word processing at an intermediate skill level.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.
  • Adhere to standards contained in the Company “Code of Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives.
  • Assist in the review of DOE Orders and regulating guidance in order to implement.
  • Interface with and assist the Manager in the assessment and implementation of new regulations and/or special projects.
  • Perform job task analysis to evaluate training needs.
  • Develop and coordinate preparation of:
    • Training plans curriculum and schedules.
    • Training manuals and job aids.
    • Lesson plans and examinations.
  • Conduct effective classroom and on-the-job training presentations.
  • Prepare written, walk-through, and oral board examinations. Perform evaluations and grade exams.
  • Coordinate continuing training programs for project personnel.
  • Observe employee job tasks and/or evolutions to evaluate training effectiveness, site training deficiencies and develop corrective actions.
  • Develop criteria to determine effectiveness of training activities. Update, as required, and administer various qualification programs.
  • Update various computer applications to track variety of databases and perform related analysis.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
