Today, BGCSL serves more than 5,000 youth across 25 Clubs, including 24 school-based Clubs in San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Hayward, and Union City, and our dedicated Teen Clubhouse.
Why Apply for This Internship?BGCSL’s Teen Summer Internship Program is a paid opportunity designed for rising 10th–12th graders to gain hands-on experience in either Culinary Arts or Youth Development. Through on-the-job training, weekly career readiness workshops, and field trips to Bay Area companies, interns develop professional skills, build their resumes, and explore potential career paths.
Position OverviewTeen Summer Interns will participate in a 6-week, 25-hours-per-week internship with two tracks available: Culinary Arts or Junior Youth Development Professional (Jr. YDP). All interns will attend weekly Career Readiness Workshops and two Bay Area Company Field Trips for career exploration.
Internship Opportunities:Culinary Arts Intern
- Shifts: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM or 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
- Assist Culinary Arts staff with lunch service and food prep
- Help lead cooking workshops for teens
- Learn about kitchen safety, nutrition, and culinary careers
- Gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced culinary environment
Junior Youth Development Professional (Jr. YDP)
- Shift: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Support Summer Program staff at elementary Club sites
- Engage with youth ages 4–10 in games, learning, and enrichment
- Assist in maintaining a fun, safe, and structured setting
- Develop leadership and youth engagement skills
Program Components:
On-Site Work:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at assigned Teen Clubhouse or Summer School site
Career Readiness Workshops:
- Wednesdays at the Teen Clubhouse
- Topics include resume writing, interview skills, workplace communication, professionalism, budgeting, and financial literacy
Field Trips:
- Two site visits to Bay Area companies
- Participate in employee panels and learn about internship and career paths
Eligibility:
- Rising 10th, 11th, or 12th grade student
- Interest in culinary arts or youth development
- Commitment to full program dates and attendance
- Open to learning, feedback, and professional growth
Required Skills:
- Reliability and responsibility
- Respect for peers, staff, and program expectations
- Willingness to learn new skills and work in a team

Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing and moving around while assisting youth with equipment and managing the space.
- Must be able to lift and move technology equipment (up to 25 lbs) such as computers, speakers, and DJ setups.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and carrying items as needed to maintain and organize the space.
- Occasional use of basic hand tools for minor repairs or adjustments to equipment.
- Occasional exposure to communicable diseases in an office environment, including COVID-19, common cold, and flu viruses (Negative TB screen required).
- Noise levels in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
