The Academy's first school opened in Delano in 2009, serving students from across the Central Valley in grades 6-12. In 2016, we moved to our new, state-of-the-art college prep campus in Delano, and in the Fall of 2017, added an elementary school in Delano and opened a second charter school in Lost Hills. In Delano, we serve over 1,800 students in grades TK-12, while in Lost Hills, we serve over 400 students in grades TK-12.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Expanded Learning Manager or Designee, the Expanded Learning Specialist is responsible for supporting the organizational effort to develop innovative and expand learning opportunities for students outside of school-day hours, including after school and intersession (non-student days).

Due to the nature of this role, the Expanded Learning Specialist must maintain a high level of ethical and professional behavior due to access to confidential student information about Wonderful College Prep Academy scholars. Expanded Learning Specialists will be required to participate in and perform ongoing staff professional development activities.

* This position is contingent on program need and funding.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Under the direction of the Expanded Learning Manager, provide support services to the Expanded Learning Program.
  • Interview, train, and supervise program staff to ensure high-quality delivery of services.
  • Provide consistent feedback and evaluate staff using School Mint Grow
  • Review, approve, and submit time sheets on time.
  • Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure smooth program operations.
  • Meet with Expanded Learning Manager to review and coordinate student activities and learn new instructional techniques in alignment with quality standards.
  • Develop and implement 30 intersession days and ensure the safety of participants.
  • Under the direction of the Expanded Learning Manager, guide and support staff for the purpose of ensuring program success.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of supplies required for program.
  • Purchase necessary materials for programs
  • Plan, organize, and manage student incentives to encourage positive behavior and program participation. (PBIS)
  • Provide guidance to Site Leads on student behavior.
  • Facilitate virtual meetings for students and staff using Zoom and other online platforms.
  • Complete regular site visits to assess program and safety implementation, program delivery, and implement procedures that will improve services to students in both Delano and Lost Hills campuses.
  • Plan and coordinate engaging academic, enrichment, and recreational activities that address the diverse needs of students.
  • Assist the Expanded Learning Manager with scheduling guest speakers, clinics, and excursions relevant to the program.
  • Interact with parents to promote the program.
  • Organize and facilitate Family Nights.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate field trips that enhance learning experiences, ensuring they align with program objectives and meet safety and logistical requirements.
  • Partner with site administration to address facilities, enhance school safety, and resolve student issues and concerns.
  • Implement school day procedures within after-school programs to ensure alignment and consistency.
  • Work in the position of Site Lead and/or Mentor in the event that no substitute staff member has been secured.
  • Conduct and facilitate professional development and provide onsite coaching support for all program staff
  • Provide Expanded Learning staff training and guidance on classroom management, lesson planning, and lesson delivery.
  • Monitor the Expanded Learning Program to ensure all required program components are in alignment with the program quality standards.
  • Work with nutritional services to provide healthy snacks.
  • Attend any training offered by WCPA, CDE, or the grant administration, as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years prior experience working in an expanded learning environment.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with students, families, and staff of diverse ethnic, racial, cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Reliable transportation and a valid CA driver's license.
  • Ability to speak Spanish fluently, preferred.
  • CPR & First Aid certified
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Strong leadership skills in planning and implementing activities
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check (including fingerprints) upon official offer and acceptance of a position with WCPA.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Office environment; fast-paced work, constant interruptions.
  • Physical requirements: Hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations and communicate over the telephone; seeing to read, prepare, and proofread documents and view computer monitors; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects; ability to go to sites apart from primary office to conduct business.

Pay Range: $68,640.00 - $89,600.00. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
