Description: The teacher at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School is nurturing, collaborative, and driven and is a certified educator, fulfilling the requirements to instruct in a Catholic school within the Archdiocese of Denver. This teacher reports directly to the principal. Adherence to the policies and procedures set by the local school, the Archdiocese of Denver, and the Office of Catholic Schools is expected. The teacher works alongside the principal and staff to foster an environment that supports the mission of Catholic education.
The Theology teacher is passionate about his or her Catholic faith and desires to further students in their spiritual journey, helping them to reach their potential in a Catholic school environment. The teacher has solid, in-depth knowledge of Roman Catholicism and is a practicing Catholic committed to his or her faith and that of the students. A Theology teacher is responsible for assisting students in their faith formation utilizing a comprehensive theology curriculum. They accomplish this by creating engaging, challenging, and innovative lesson plans encouraging students to seek and explore their faith from a multi-faceted approach, including in-depth classroom discussions and activities, research, self-reflection, retreats, and service to others.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in education and/or Catholic theology;
- Requires appropriate state licensure for teaching or willingness to participate in the Archdiocese of Denver’s alternative licensure program;
- Compliance with Safe Environment requirements (after being hired).
Other Requirements:
- Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally live out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043);
- Refrain from promotion or approval of, or the living out of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals;
- Commitment to witnessing to the Catholic faith in his/her daily living;
- Experience working with children;
- Requires lifting up to 40 pounds and carrying up to 40 pounds;
- Going up and down multiple flights of stairs daily;
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Catholic School Teacher will include but are not limited to:
- Teach and act in accordance with doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church;
- Know, teach, and act consistently in accordance with the mission, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Blessed Sacrament Catholic School;
- Support the faith mission of the school and collaborate with other teachers to embed the Catholic faith throughout the curriculum;
- Provide grade-appropriate instructional program following the curriculum of the Archdiocese of Denver, including lesson planning, classroom preparation, and assessment of each student’s performance;
- Responsible for all instruction and curriculum including Sacramental preparation, the formation of a prayer life, preparation for Mass, coordinating retreats, and the development of a Catholic worldview;
- Work collaboratively with a team of middle school teachers to support student learning and development;
- Provide grade-appropriate extended or enrichment opportunities;
- Maintain state licensure;
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, colleagues, and principal;
- Participate in all Archdiocese of Denver in-service and training programs, and participate in all local school-sponsored professional development and training programs and initiatives unless exempted or excused by the principal;
- Attend all required faculty and staff meetings, unless exempted or excused by the principal;
- Cooperate with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings, activities, and projects;
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and secure learning and work environment;
- Follows established procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of students;
- Perform teaching duties and all other duties as assigned by the school principal.
