Job Description

The Director of Academics in MATH is an instructional and strategic leader responsible for leveraging leader and teacher performance to ensure scholars demonstrate significant and measurable results. This individual works collaboratively with district and school leaders, instructional coaches, and teachers to ensure rigorous, equitable, and standards-aligned mathematics instruction that supports all learners, improves academic outcomes, and closes the achievement gaps.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Experiences | Facilitator & Assessor:

    • Support with curriculum development and instructional practices in K - 12 with a focus on Mathematics.

    • Lead implementation of a comprehensive, standards-aligned math program across K-12 campuses

    • Conduct monthly instructional walkthroughs and calibrations to assess alignment, instructional quality, fidelity of use, and look-fors

    • Develop and support differentiated strategies to meet the needs of ELL scholars and scholars with IEPs

  • Self Awareness & Reflective Leadership:

    • Actively seeks and applies feedback to refine NWILCS best practices and drive continuous improvement in student achievement

    • Adapts communication style to build positive and collaborative relationships

    • Reflects on leadership experiences to identify growth areas and inform a focused professional development plan

    • Seeks meaningful learning opportunities and responds constructively to diverse perspectives

  • Strategic Decision Making:

    • Use student data to inform academic strategy and NWILCS instructional priorities

    • Collaborate with the development and submission of academic reports to internal and external stakeholders, including IDOE and charter authorizers

    • Ensure district-wide consistency in data systems and support schools in effective data analysis and targeted reteaching

    • Provide actionable feedback to improve school-level academic performance and decision-making

    • Committed, adaptable, and student-centered, with a deep respect for diverse populations and a model of professionalism

    • Demonstrates strong reflection and self-awareness, using feedback and personal insight to continuously grow and improve professional practice

  • Coaching & Mentoring:

    • Partner with School Leadership Teams to enhance instruction, assessment, and student achievement in alignment with NWILCS goals

    • Coach and support leaders in implementing the NWILCS academic framework and a rigorous, standards-aligned K–12 math program


  • Promote a Culture of Continuous Learning:

    • Contribute to the design and delivery of district-wide professional development aligned with NWILCS priorities

    • Lead and participate in cross-district initiatives that support professional growth, innovation, and instructional excellence

  • Parent & Community Engagement:

    • Model professional and empathetic communication, adapting style to connect with diverse families and stakeholders

    • Foster strong relationships by creating respectful, inclusive environments for students, parents, and staff

    • Support cross-functional initiatives that promote the overall health and sustainability of the organization

    • Participate in district planning, compliance, and operational processes that align academic work with broader organizational goals

    • Perform other duties as assigned that advance the mission, culture, and continuous improvement of NWILCS


Required Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Education, Education Administration or Teaching (preferred)

  • 3-5 years of teaching math in an urban environment

  • At least three years of academic coaching with a proven track record of raising scholar achievement

  • State Administrative/Teaching certificate

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience leading teams and building capacity

  • Data management tools, organizational tools, computer skills (Performance Matters, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.
