A full-time opportunity is available for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired to support students within a K-12 school setting. This position is based in Fort Wayne, IN, and runs on a contract basis from August 5, 2025, through May 20, 2026, for the normal school year. The role involves working with a caseload of approximately 25 students receiving indirect and consultative services rather than managing a separate blind or low vision classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and therapists to support individualized student goals related to visual impairments
- Assist the teacher of record (TOR), as well as general education staff, by communicating visual supports needs and strategies
- Observe and assess students needs via virtual or in-person methods
- Recommend appropriate curricular adaptations, materials, and environmental modifications to enhance student access and learning
- Monitor student progress and provide data to support IEP development and updates
- Participate in IEP meetings and offer specialist input for visually impaired students
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) for K-12 students
- Experience working with school-aged children with visual impairments
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams
- Capacity to provide consultative services and support across multiple classrooms and staff members
