The Nightingale-Bamford School is seeking to hire part-time school aides to supervise Lower School students during morning drop-off, recess, classroom transitions, lunch and after school snack and provide classroom support. Lower School aides will assist in all aspects of student supervision to promote health and safety as well as a supportive learning environment. The hours are either 8:30 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. or 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 5 days per week during the days that school is in session. (These hours may shift slightly to support the needs of the Lower School.) This position reports to the Associate Head of Lower School. This is an non-exempt hourly position that pays $25.00 per hour. This position does not include benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

Supervision & Safety

  • Supervise students during early morning drop-off
  • Escort students to the classrooms at the start of the school day
  • Be available to help late arriving students to their classrooms
  • Escort students to and from classes, lunch and the playdeck and maintain an orderly group as students move from place to place
  • Supervise play on the roof playdeck and ensure safe behavior
  • Supervise students in the library
  • Monitor hallways during designated times

Lunchroom Duties

  • Serve family-style lunch to students at assigned tables
  • Be knowledgeable of dietary plans and restrictions for individual students
  • Monitor student behavior during lunch
  • Ensure students clean up after themselves and maintain a respectful lunchroom environment

Classroom & Academic Support

  • Act as a support to teachers in academic classes such as English, social studies, computer science, health, community, dance, music, SING, art, and science

Afterschool Support

  • Help distribute snacks and take attendance
  • Supervise students during quiet activities while they wait for their activities to begin

Other Responsibilities May Include

  • Chaperoning Lower School field trips
  • Work as assigned by the Associate Head of Lower School

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have prior experience or demonstrated interest in working with elementary school aged students in a school setting
  • Be eager to work with a close-knit team and adopt a collaborative spirit
  • Must be flexible and willing to change direction in a fast paced environment
  • Have strong communication skills and be willing to ask for help when needed
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required (can be provided by the school)
  • Must have the ability to walk up and down several flights of stairs throughout the day and stand for 30 minutes while supervising children on the building playdeck.

SALARY:

$25.00 per hour, not to exceed 25 hours per week.
