Job DescriptionFamily Life Academy Charter School (commonly called FLACS) is a nonprofit network of high-performing charter schools in the South Bronx. Family Life Academy Charter Schools, together with the Latino Pastoral Action Center and parents, create the conditions for self-empowerment for all its K-12 students to excel academically, take responsibility for their own learning, and affirm human values, today, in college, and beyond. Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement units to teach students to build responsive websites using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Introduce web tools, Git version control, and best practices in accessibility and UX design.
  • Guide students through hands-on projects to develop a professional web portfolio.
  • Cover core programming concepts including variables, functions, and control structures using Python.
  • Explore advanced topics like object-oriented programming, file handling, and basic data analysis.
  • Support students in developing real-world coding projects and problem-solving skills.
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments and analyze and use assessment data to refine instructional practices to close the achievement gap for all students.
  • Monitor student behavior and academic progress and report student progress to parents using online resources, report cards, and progress reports.
  • Reflect on lessons, student data, and current educational trends to improve practice and student outcomes.
  • Participate in ongoing professional learning, mentorship, coaching, and staff development and share best practices with colleagues and other members of the staff.
  • Foster the school’s culture of family, inclusion, and a love of learning and build positive and respectful relationships with students, parents, and the school staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Prior satisfactory teaching experience.
  • Computer Science Teaching Certification
  • New York State Teaching Certification in Mathematics (grades 7-12) is a plus.
  • Dual certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or Students with Disabilities is a plus.
  • Professionalism, excellent organizational skills, timeliness, and communication skills.
  • NYS Dept of Education fingerprint clearance and background checks.
