You Are
A highly skilled Technical Writer with extensive experience in developing and managing technical documentation in complex environments. You thrive in creating clear, concise, and accurate materials that support cybersecurity policies, standards, and process documentation.
This is a temporary assignment expected to last six weeks, with the possibility of extension based on project needs.
How You Will Make an Impact
You will play a critical role in supporting the development of cybersecurity-related policies, standards, and directives, working closely with various teams to gather input and build consensus. Your expertise will ensure that all technical materials—ranging from software and systems engineering documentation to user manuals and process guides—are accurate, well-organized, and aligned with leading practices such as NIST, FISMA, and ISO.
Responsibilities
- Writes technical materials, such as equipment manuals, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions.
- Primary focus will be on the development of process documentation and cyber security related policies/standards/directives, with an expectation of heavy interaction with multiple teams to gain consensus and deliver final documentation products that will be accepted by all stakeholders.
- May assist in layout work.
- Checks documents for spelling, grammar, organization, consistency, and content.
- Leverages and implements where possible the Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Information Processing (FIP), Government Printing Office (GPO), or commercial documentation standards as appropriate to the assignment.
- Ensures that documents follow the appropriate style guide and editing workflow process.
- Create guidance and technical documents/briefs and
- Prepare, review, revise and maintain technical documents including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing and user documentation.
- Write and edit technical and code documentation for all project hardware and software, to include installation, configuration, and how-to artifacts.
- Provide field data definition and data flow documentation and format technical publications from pamphlets, technical drawings, and collaboration with technical personnel and other available resources.
- Utilize leading practices and frameworks (NIST, FISMA, ISO, etc.)
- May be required to respond to support nights or weekends to fulfill department related duties or be required to be placed on an on-call schedule for duties as directed/needed by command, directorate, or department.

Here's What You Need
- Minimum of 6+ years of experience demonstrating the required proficiency as Technical Writer
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalency
- Active Security+ CE certification
- Secret Security Clearance required
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Expert knowledge of DoD/MHS instructions, policies, and templates.
- Strong knowledge of RMF requirements for documentation for Authority to Operate (ATO).
- Experience providing document/process development support for a cyber security organization.
- Experience maintaining continual improvements processes.
- Thorough understanding of Information Security Compliance requirements.
- Strong knowledge and working experience within security and risk methodologies, frameworks, and technologies.
Bonus Points If
- You have prior experience supporting a DoD environment.
