Job DescriptionSalary: $20.15 - $23.61

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Garden Coordinator, teach and instruct students in academic, social, behavioral, and other related skill areas; Perform other related functions as required.


~ Plan, develop, organize, iand implement lesson plans. ~ Prepare, develop and utilize a variety of instructional materials appropriate for the instructional level of students within a wide range of abilities. ~ Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment. ~ Implement effective behavior management techniques to promote student engagement and respect. ~ Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and maintain knowledge of current best practices in education. ~ Attend staff meetings and other school-related events. ~ Identify and address the individual needs of students to ensure growth. ~ Provide a nurturing and supportive environment where every child feels valued and respected. ~ Facilitates garden science classes, incorporating both environmental science and nutrition education as they relate to the garden; ~ Oversees and coordinates students hands-on experiences in the garden (planting, tending, harvesting and cooking); ~ Builds involvement in and commitment to the school garden within the school community, including teachers, administrators, students, parents and community volunteers; ~ Maintains the garden, coordinating volunteers and working tosecure all needed supplies; ~ Facilitate K-5th garden-based education classes; ~ Manage the school garden, plan and prepare for garden work activities, manage planting schedule, ensure availability of tools and other necessary materials; ~ Develop and implement engaging outdoor education lessons for students in grades K-5 ~ CUltivate a love for the environmnet through practical, experiental learning in the outdoor learning environment. ~ Provide instruction on vermicomposting and other sustainable gardening practices. ~ Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, emplhasizing teamwork and curiosity. ~ Demonstrate strong classroom management skills to ensure a productive and safe educational setting. ~ Perform non-instructional duties, student supervision, and other school related activities.

~ Other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of:
Strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of primary grade pupils; child growth and development and behavior characteristics of the primary grade child; educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives; behavior management and behavior shaping strategies and conflict resolution procedures; socio-economic and cultural background differences of the general school population.

Ability to:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education:
Highschool diploma or GED; Coursework in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Horticulture or related field.



Experience:
Prior experience in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Horticulture, or related field; Outdoor group management experience preferred



REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS Certification Requirement:
CPR; Completed coursework in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Horticulture preferred.



Qualification Requirement:
One year of regular full time experience in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Horticulture.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work Environment: Outdoors



Physical Requirements:Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; Regularly required to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
