Rocky Mountain Classical Academy is seeking an experienced and dynamic Executive Principal to lead our educational institution. The Executive Principal will be responsible for providing visionary leadership, fostering a positive school culture, and ensuring academic excellence. This role requires a strong commitment to classical education and the ability to inspire both staff and students. The Executive Principal is accountable to the RMCA Board of Directors (BOD) as an authority in charge of maintaining the academic integrity of the school and its faculty (main campus and homeschool), the supervision of students, and student discipline. The Executive Principal must demonstrate high moral character, as a leader and example of RMCA.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid administrative credential or license, Colorado Principal License
  • Master’s Degree in Education Administration, or a related field
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Minimum three years experience in educational management supervision and administration
  • Strong understanding of classical education principles and practices as conveyed in RMCA’s charter
  • Ability to inspire and motivate staff and students.
  • Experience interacting, and being accountable to a parent elected BOD
  • Minimum five years previous proficient K-12 classroom teaching experience
  • Experience with the identification and support of GT, RTI, and SPED students
  • A complete understanding of and ability to implement the school’s mission and vision
  • Experience and knowledge regarding charter school issues and their related stakeholders
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.

Requirements:

In order to maintain the academic integrity of the school the Executive Principal, with the oversight of the BOD, must cultivate the talents of teachers, see that the curriculum is implemented, and set the intellectual tone of the school.


The Executive Principal is expected to:

  • Evaluate curriculum to ensure that it is aligned to the Core Knowledge sequence and the classical approach
  • Ensure that the curriculum, and its delivery, is academically sound and consistent
  • Coordinate and facilitate staff training in the philosophy and practical aspects of the classical model
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of character education throughout the school
  • Plan for the academic and professional growth of the faculty
  • Oversee students’ academic progress and recognize academic excellence
  • Approve all curriculum purchases and programs in accordance with the school’s mission
  • Ensure that teaching methods are consistent with the philosophy of the school
  • Create a strategic plan to reach academic excellence for all students
  • Oversee standardized testing

IMPLEMENTING THE MISSION AND PHILOSOPHY:

  • Attends all BOD meetings in order to be informed and accountable
  • Assist the BOD in determining policies that need BOD approval and adoption
  • Facilitate an understanding of classical education among the BOD and school community
  • Oversight of legislative actions in order to have RMCA interests represented at the local, state and federal level
  • Maintain an honest and transparent relationship with the BOD in order to effectively govern RMCA
  • Implement the policies that the BOD creates in an atmosphere of teamwork, respect and trust
  • Provide an Executive Principal Report, for all BOD meetings
  • Shall be formally evaluated once a year by the BOD Executive Committee
  • Keep informed of the current state of educational research at the national level
  • Will conduct all compliance and reporting measures required by District 49
  • Performs all extra tasks and projects as assigned by the BOD in a timely manner

SCHOOL AND FACULTY MANAGEMENT:

  • Main point of contact between the Board and academic staff at RMCA
  • Oversight of K-8 Campus (academic), SPED Services, and Homeschool Director
  • Responsible for determining the staff positions needed to implement the school mission
  • Oversight of the evaluation of staff and administration, and presents summary data as requested by the BOD
  • Ensure the professionalism of the faculty and academic staff
  • Oversight and evaluation of the school administrative team (academic)
  • Recommend corrective action to the Board to address recognized problems
  • Provide input to the BOD regarding future academic planning and goals
  • Attend required district and state meetings
  • Create a strategic plan focused on teacher hiring and retention
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director with regards to personnel and financial issues

SUPERVISING STUDENTS:

  • Has the authority to handle all parental concerns
  • Has the authority to operate the school as required (academic)
  • Oversight over the non-academic operations of the school including student life, school environment and athletics
  • Develop and maintain a positive school culture
  • Implement policies and procedures for discipline, dress code, and attendance
  • Work cooperatively with parents to promote students’ compliance with school policies
  • Ensure that faculty are uniformly and consistently implementing disciplinary and positive behavior support procedures

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work as team with other staff, maintaining a supportive and encouraging relationship with other teachers, and assisting in the development/implementation of programs/processes to enhance the school's overall program
  • Effectively represent the school, its program, policies and philosophy, and the teaching profession to the BOD and the community
  • Follow the grievance policy as outlined in the Employee Handbook in dealing with conflict with student, parents, staff and administration.
  • Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature
  • Seek the counsel of the administration, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.Regularly attend and participate in school staff meetings and applicable in-service sessions
  • Cooperate with administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.

  • Knowledge of Classical Education and the skill and desire to explain, train and inspire staff in Classical Education methodology.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk or sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. There are no specific vision abilities required by this job.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use interpersonal skills. Frequently required to compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, computer.
