Job Description: Coaches at The Spot are more than just instructors, they’re educators and mentors, developing relationships with kids and their parents that can last a lifetime. This position may support a variety of programs from youth recreational teams to competitive youth teams but is primarily responsible for one of our dedicated youth teams. Coaches work together to develop curriculums for their teams, in collaboration with the Head Coach. Coaches generally work in pairs to provide the best program for Spot youth athletes.
Current Openings:
Advanced Team (4:45-7:45pm, Monday in Boulder, Tuesday in Louisville, Thursday in Golden)
Boulder Comp (5-8pm, Tuesday and Thursday)
Louisville Comp (6-9pm, Monday and Wednesday)
Elite 2 (4:45-8:15pm, Monday in Boulder, Tuesday in Golden, Thursday in Louisville)
Elite 1 (4:45-8:15pm, Monday in Golden, Tuesday in Boulder, Thursday in Louisville)
Hiring Timeline:
These positions will start mid-August with consistent hours starting on August 18th.
Position Responsibilities:

Manage risk during programming
-
Adhere to all sexual harassment standards
-
Assist in planning team trips, camps and general outings as needed
-
Support Identification and recruiting of potential team members
-
Impart to the athletes the maximum, appropriate level of knowledge and skills
-
Be an ambassador for The Spot and for the sport in all interactions with clients and the public
-
Understand and execute the program curriculum and all instructions from the Head Coach and Competitive Team Manager
-
Provide feedback to the Coaching management team on a regular basis
-
Lead and/or participate in the coaches meeting prior to and after practice to provide feedback or comments to the coaching management regarding practice
-

Communicate and coordinate with other departments in fulfillment of duties and responsibilities as directed
-
Answer client questions to the best of your ability and keep coaching management informed of issues and/or concerns
-
Contribute to the design and delivery of age-appropriate & risk-managed climbing programs that meet the goals of the climbers, teams and the business
-
Coach recreational and competitive teams and be available for competitions and team events throughout the year and specific school breaks or holidays
-
Record (as directed) all daily curriculum & participant performance
-
Ongoing, provide instruction on climbing risk management including spotting, falling, landing, and potential hazards around the gym

Maintain all appropriate CPR, first aid, and training certifications
-
Attend all mandatory training sessions or meetings as directed by the Competitive Team Manager and Head Coach

Ability to manage your time clock appropriately

Other duties as required
Qualifications:
-
2+ years climbing experience in relevant facets of rock climbing, specifically, indoor, outdoor, bouldering, and sport
-
1+ years experience coaching & instructing climbing with youth or adults.

CPR/First Aid certifications
-
Ability to breakdown, teach, and critique climbing technique to climbers of all abilities
-
Ability to work the entire competitive season (August 2025-August 2026)

Extensive experience in risk management for rock climbing
-
Strong communication skills: interpersonal, public relations, conflict resolution, motivational skills
-
Must be friendly and people oriented; able to connect with clients
-
Strong decision making skills: critical thinking, adaptability

Willingness to work as part of a team

Relentlessly pursues personal development opportunities

Ability to work weeknight evenings and weekends

Ability to coach private lessons
-
Solid working knowledge of rope systems: belays, knots, rappels, etc.

Skills in group leadership

Able to stand on feet for long periods of time

Physically able to top rope and lead belay

Must pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications
-
5.12/V5 Redpoint Level, 5.11/V3 Onsight Level or higher
-
Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder

Competition experience strongly preferred
-
Route Setting experience preferred
-
Experience climbing both indoors and outdoors
-
Ability to read and understand V8/5.13
